That is my fault. Our first visit to Amanzoe was the first week of October 2013 and the amount of sun we received could be measured in minutes. We went back beginning of September in '14 and it was beautiful. Plenty of people have said it is fine in October, but I would not risk it again.

2 pics from that journey.

Us braving it on the beach, thinking it would be fine, but then needing to wrap ourselves in towels and drink hot chocolate: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...4/IMG_7754.jpg

May half term school holidays in the U.K are the week which includes the last Monday in May (a Bank Holiday here) so this year it rolls into June. We always had our trips to the Greek islands then or the October Half Term (end of the month) as July and August in Greece can be just too hot and more crowded. We generally had very nice weather - in high 20sC even at the end of October apart from 1994 when Greece had the worst floods ever - I remember that my youngest was 4 and had his first Startrite navy school sandals which he was very upset to get wet in the rivers running down from the hills.

And great report Erika - love the photo of your son.

Yes, we originally had this trip scheduled for the last week of May which I'll bet is a near perfect time to go.

Thanks for all the nice feedback, everyone.

Not sure if the ocean is warmer end of May or beginning of October.

Perfect enough for me to use the pools, at least.

I'm just back from a week in Rhodes - two distinctly chilly days of solid rain and grey skies, five days of perfect sunshine, about 25c. You just can't tell these days. The Greeks were moaning about the weather (actually they were moaning about everything) but the weather was the worst they've had for years. Hardly anyone was swimming off the beaches we passed by. The sea was freezing people told us at the airport. The pool at our hotel was also freezing.

We had some specific things to see in Rhodes which, otherwise, was a dump, we thought.

Personally, if I wanted a beach holiday at any time of year, I would not even think about the Mediterranean.
