Four Seasons ceasing management of FS Provence

This just announced:

Effective October 1, 2012, Four Seasons will be concluding its management of Four Seasons Resort Provence at Terre Blanche. The Resort’s Owner, Terre Blanche Management SAS (“TBM”), will assume self-management of the Resort under the name “Terre Blanche Hotel and Spa” as of October 1, 2012.

As you may know, Four Seasons is a management company that operates the Resort on behalf of TBM. Although Four Seasons has managed the Resort since it opened in 2004, TBM would like to take the Resort in a new direction focusing on sport tourism. As such, Four Seasons and TBM have agreed to terms that will allow a transition to independent management.

It's such a shame. How quickly will the property fall into the crapper once it turns over?

I'm guessing the new owner balked at paying the fees/share of revenue to FS, and thinks he can do it "himself".

Any other really great resorts in the Provence region?

In this case chat happens for the staff? They leave the property and stay with Four Seasons (at least managers)? Or they are given the choice to stay or leave to another property?

Management will move to other properties within FS and staff will be given the option to move, but of course, some have strong ties to Provence so will not want to go elsewhere, in which case, it depends on whether the owner gives them jobs.

Judging by the way the owner operates the golf café, after taking over the management from FS late 2010, I hold out little hope for this resort. I gather that many guests have already cacelled for this summer after hearing the news.

In the French labour system it will not be the owner deciding whether they are given jobs unless they close completely for at least 25 months consecutively.

Could be good for the company. Opens up more opportunities in the area as there is not radius restrictions around provence.

I was hoping to visit this place sometime this year as has received good reviews. Worth a punt before October or will it be on a downward slope already?

Most, I hear today, will move within FS. It could be, though, that some who cannot move from Provence due to family ties may apply to the owner for a job within the new set-up.

With the exception of certain management (probably very few have the designation), if an employee in France is working for the activity, and the activity is sold, the employee has the automatic right to continue at the same pay, seniority, and bargaining position for the new activity. The employees will not have to apply- it will be up to the owner to work with the union (which is automatic in France- no need for certification) and the union will determine who works in which positions.

The top management will surely move with Four Seasons (although at the rate FS is going there is going to be a lot of movement).
