The Four Seasons has an excellent staff, restaurant and beautiful views of the river and arch. While you can cab it back and forth to Clayton, it would probably be easier to get a rental. The Ritz is fine, but most locals will tell you that the FS is the property of choice.

Please do write a review on the Four Seasons- I have looked at it on the last couple of trips to St. Louis, but have not yet stayed there- also is there really a Casino in the hotel as it appears, or is that just a next door building?

Its attached, but the casino there is ghettoville!

Regarding the Ritz - I liked it and liked the area. I didn't like the $30 parking fee and the scary/weird hallway to get from the parking garage to the lobby, but definitely better than some of the other hotels I've stayed at. I prefer more suburb hotels when in STL, but if you like downtown, there are nice properties there too.

That was my point- I thought it was a very strange combination.

RC St. Louis (Clayton, MO) sold; to remain RC

Although sale terms remain confidential, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Clayton has a new owner.

Maritz, Wolff & Co., which had owned the luxury hotel since the 1990s, sold the property in late December, said Jeff Barone, vice president of asset management at Maritz, Wolff.

The sale has a confidentiality clause, but a source, requesting anonymity, said Thursday the new owner is Bruce Karsh, a founder of Oaktree Capital Management, in Los Angeles.

Karsh, who is from St. Louis, was unavailable for comment.

Lew Wolff, a founder of Maritz, Wolff, said the Ritz-Carlton deal “was a private sale to an individual.”

Barone said the hotel will remain a Ritz-Carlton and that Maritz, Wolff will continue to provide asset management. About $3 million in hotel renovations will take place over the next 18 months, he said.

Work on the hotel’s lobby lounge will be done in March, Barone said. The hotel ballroom and restaurant will be redone later, he said. Guest rooms were renovated in 2009, he said

Was last at the property at Thanksgiving, things seems to be going very well. Disappointing to hear they were having financial difficulties, I've always been under the impression that the STL RC holds its own with WUSTL and Centene nearby, albeit with lower rates (and also much lower costs) than other properties. Nothing to suggest it will be de-flagged and the article even states it will remain a Ritz-Carlton.

Ritz-Carlton St. Louis Renovating Lobby Lounge

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis has announced a $1 million renovation to The Lobby Lounge and Bar.

The new look of The Lobby Lounge is designed around the theme, “Rhythm and Martinis,” which infuses the traditional Ritz-Carlton elegance with renewed energy and the social air of a modern club.

A favorite gathering spot featuring light fare, afternoon tea, a legendary lineup of over 200 martinis, and live entertainment, The Lobby Lounge receives gold leaf embellishments to its coved ceiling and the luxe-lacquer wall behind its mahogany bar. Titanium gold granite will top the bar while brass accents frame the bar’s illuminated vellum front.

This Place is Confused

The recent renovation left the hotel stuck between the old RC (chandeliers and botanical prints) and a W (hipsters a plenty). Checked in Friday at 8:30 and literally had to shout to the front desk to check in, as there was a full band playing and no physical separation between the bar and the desk--all one big open space.

Did stop for a drink, but "The Lounge" it is not. Between the couple dry humping at the bar and the guy next to us dropping F bombs in front of the Mrs., the vibe was just bad.

Room was very nice, location perfect and service was good. But if I want to stay in a W, I will stay in a W. Calmer mid week perhaps, but be warned about the weekends.

Just passing through for Thanksgiving and the indoor swimming pool is closed and is now an expanded health club. Anyone with young children or otherwise hoping to use the pool should explore other options. The locker rooms are still in place as is the massage room (they don't offer a full spa-seems to be an "on call" therapist)

Otherwise for the most part this prop is unchanged-still stuck in the 1990s style but they have redecorated the lobby lounge to feel less stuffy and more airy with less furniture and a brighter color palate.

While not the best property in STL (Four Seasons or perhaps even Westin are better), still best option if you need to be in the Clayton/WUSTL area.

Any stays in the past 6 years? Going to a wedding nearby later this spring and likely staying here. Just wondering what to expect for Platinum members

Stayed here a couple times. good but not great - better than the average 90s/00s-era ritz, but not by much. upgrade will probably clear but there just isn't that much to be upgraded to unless you want to pay for club. definitely the best bonvoy option in the STL especially if you need to be in the greater clayton area. Very convenient to a lot thanks to being on Forest Park Parkway, too.

Back from the weekend. We were on a "wedding rate" so not sure if an upgrade was possible, but we arrived at 11AM and were more than thrilled to be given a room almost immediately (desk agent spent a solid 7-10 minutes shuffling rooms around to get us one). Room wasn't "defeathered" but she promised someone would be up soon to do so, and less than 30 minutes later housekeeping showed up and did a complete bedding change, quite cheerfully and friendly (we shared all our Covid and vax stories with her).

The place isn't as fancy as I expected, but it was nice. Rooms were large, but no more well appointed than a nice Westin. Only 3 elevators for 18 floors but they get to you FAST.

Big problem solved by the desk was my necktie somehow didn't make it to STL with us. I went down hoping they'd have a plain black or blue tie or something I could borrow from their banquet group, and the gentleman at the desk took me into the tiny shop and told me to pick any tie. They usually have 2 loaners, but they had "walked away" and they needed a new one, so I picked a gorgeous tie (probably $200) and promised to bring it back before I spilled on it (50-50 chance), which I did do, most gratefully. I don't think there was another option to buy a tie within 3 miles of the property, so this was a big lifesaver.

We did love the neighborhood. Walked as far as just past Shaw Park to the west to the middle of Forest Park to the east
