Brussels Airlines becomes a partner of Miles & More from October 25, 2009

As you may be aware, Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa are in the process of establishing a strategic partnership that will result in a whole range of benefits for our customers but which currently remains under regulatory review awaiting approval by the European Commission.

Within the framework of such partnership, we would like to inform you that Brussels Airlines will terminate its loyalty programme “Privilege” on October 24, 2009 at midnight and will
join Miles & More as from October 25, 2009 *.

Miles & More is the leading frequent flyer programme in Europe operated by Lufthansa in partnership with Adria Airways, Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Luxair and SWISS International Airlines.

For you, our loyal customer, this is excellent news. The Miles & More programme will enable you to enjoy an increased range of benefits offered by Europe’s leading frequent flyer programme.

Taking advantage of these benefits is simplicity itself and this e-mail will inform you on how to enrol to the Miles & More programme or how to terminate your Privilege account if you choose to decline.

The benefits of the Miles & More programme:

Earn and spend Miles & More miles on all 24 Star Alliance members as well as on an extensive range of other Miles & More airline partners.

Earn Miles & More miles with various ground partners including hotels, credit cards, car rentals, telecom companies etc.

Use your Miles & More miles to buy a fascinating range of articles from the Lufthansa WorldShop.

What happens between now and October 24, 2009
(irrespective of whether you enrol or not)?

Privilege remains your frequent flyer programme. You will still earn and spend Privilege miles on Brussels Airlines and its affiliated air and ground partners until October 24, 2009 at midnight, according to the terms and conditions of Privilege.

What happens if you enrol before July 31, 2009?

Your Miles & More account will be credited with the amount of miles corresponding to the amount of Privilege miles remaining on your Privilege account on October 24, 2009 at midnight. These miles will be credited as Miles & More award miles and as an additional benefit will have a validity of three years as from October 25, 2009 (valid until October 25, 2012).

Your tier level (Blue, Gold or Platinum) on October 24, 2009 will be automatically converted to the corresponding Miles & More tier level and maintained for two years from October 25, 2009 on (Privilege Blue becomes Miles & More Member – Privilege Gold becomes Frequent Traveller – Privilege Platinum becomes Senator).

You will receive your Miles & More card during the month of October 2009. As soon as you have received the card, you will be able to fully enjoy all related benefits.

If you are already a member of Miles & More, you will only receive a new card if your Privilege tier level is higher than your current Miles & More tier level. Otherwise you may continue to use your current Miles & More card.

The terms and conditions applicable to the Miles & More programme can be found
on www.miles-and-more.com.

How to enrol before July 31, 2009:

Visit www.privilege.brusselsairlines.com/migrate before July 31, 2009 and fully complete your registration to confirm your personal Privilege account details and to join Miles & More.

Should you already be a member of Miles & More, you can still register before July 31, 2009 to guarantee that your Privilege account details are correct and to ensure that the full amount of your Privilege miles will be credited to your Miles & More account.

Please do mention your personal Miles & More service card number on the online registration form.

What happens if you do not respond before July 31, 2009?

Your Miles & More account will be credited with the amount of miles corresponding to half of the amount of Privilege miles remaining on your Privilege account on October 24, 2009 at midnight. These miles will be credited as award miles and as an additional benefit, will have a validity of three years as from October 25, 2009 (valid until October 25, 2012).

What happens if you choose not to enrol before July 31, 2009?

Your Privilege account will be closed on October 24, 2009 (at midnight) and your outstanding Privilege miles balance will be set to zero. No miles will therefore be credited to a Miles & More account. In order to terminate your account, visit www.privilege.brusselsairlines.com/migrate before July 31, 2009 and indicate that you choose not to enrol.

Brussels Airlines American Express Card:

*If you hold a Brussels Airlines American Express Card, we will send you additional information at a later stage. In the meantime, rest assured that you will continue to earn miles for all expenditures made with the Card. All miles earned with the Card will be credited to your Miles & More account if you choose to become a Miles & More member.

We look forward to joining Miles & More as a fully integrated partner in order to bring you a whole new world of advantages.

Yours sincerely,

Bernard Gustin
Managing Director

* If the strategic partnership between Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa does not obtain approval from the European Commission, please be informed that the Privilege loyalty programme will continue as such and that this letter of termination will not have any effect.

When I initially heard the news, I was excited as I thought my staralliance & Brussels Airlines miles would now get combined... When reading this however, it seems like I was cheering to fast!

They state to transfer all miles to Lufthansa's Miles & More, although my existing staralliance membership is via United Airlines. This would mean that I'll get some miles on staralliance via Lufthansa and some via United Airlines :-( That just sucks...

I know transferring miles is just not profitable due to the loss in transaction, so I'm wondering whether somebody sees a better solution?

I now have to transfer the miles in 'any' Lufthansa Miles & More account (+-70 000 miles), so potentially I could put them on somebody's account without loosing miles. In return we could exchange some United staralliance miles.

But I'm really hoping there are easier ways to combine United & Lufthansa miles!

Thoughts?

Change all the miles into Delhaize 5 Euros vouchers. Then you can transfer them into any other account for free (up to the need to go to a delhaize shop) or even better - do your shopping with them...

Good & creative thinking :-)
Only problem is that I can only transfer between Delhaize & Privilege (which will thus become Lufthansa M&M) and there's a max of 4000 miles that can be transferred per month. I have 70 000 to transfer within 2 months :-(

this might be a good orpportunity to save my SEN status.
I am about 20k away (from platinum) with Brussels but about 100k away (from SEN) with LH, so I start thinking to concentrate my credits with Brussels. As the transfer takes place in October, shouldn't that mean that the platinum status is converted into SEN until 02/2012 at least ?

Good question. The SN email states
Your tier level (Blue, Gold or Platinum) on October 24, 2009 will be automatically converted to the corresponding Miles & More tier level and maintained for two years from October 25, 2009 on
so seems to imply October 2011. But that doesn't make sense in the M&M system and it would make more sense if it were Feb 2012.

If you're going to use Privilege to get SEN, don't forget that you will get double miles for the first 2 flights on LH or LX

With all respect - it is LH buying SN - why on earth would you expect your holdings with SN to be converted into a 3rd FFP ?

Cheers

What shall happen to Privilege members whose amount of status miles would meet HON Circle criteria?

I am sure that for those few individuals there will be a solution. Probably same as with the integration of Swiss Circle members.

I did already tranfer my Amex MR points to a new SN account. But as I wanted to enrol for the turnover it said that I'm not invited for migration!
1. my lucky guess turned out to be just right
2. the best way ever to use those MR points
3. hopefully they will accept that and combine my SN miles to my LH M&M account at a later point.

What does that mean ? You need to use your SN miles before the migration, or what ?
