LH interline with Virgin?
Just a question--

I am on 2 separate tickets--

BMI ticket (operated by LH) MUC-LHR
Virgin Atlantic from LHR-EWR

Will LH interline my bags??

they can check through the bags, but no BP. At check in in LHR oyu haveto present your baggage check so they mannually put iti into the system

My wife is travelling with the kids.

I just wanted to make sure that with this plan, she wouldn't have the schlep the bags and the kids from one terminal to another.

Sometimes they are lazy so she needs to insist, beg whatever needed

Your wife should make clear at checkin in MUC, that EWR is the final destination, not LHR. Sometime the gate agents ask about the final destination, sometimes they forget. So your wife should make sure to present both tickets during checkin.
