qualification for Senator life time status
So what I see here, the rules are
-you must fail to requalify
-in previous 10 years, you must have held SEN status
-in previous 10 years, you must have achieved 100K miles on average, therefore no dead years or moving to other cards past qualification...
As per your example @anatinus, you might have achieved more than 1 million miles total as per M&M office, however, if that was over more than 10 years... I suppose it's possible that if you had heavy travel in year 2006 or 2007 and light travel in year 2008 and/or 2017 it might just so have worked out that 2008-2017 total was under 1 mil. I'm not quite sure how the math works out for you though. Supposing the 2007 was the first year you qualified after takeover (2006 and 2007 status being granted as continuation of Qualiflyer) you'd only need to have 100K or more miles in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Thank you for your interest Fabo.sk
I think my predicament is directly related to the incorrect advice given by the local Lufthansa office. I am an Australian resident. I was told by the office that I would only be offered lifetime Senator status once I had failed to requalify for Senator status by failing to achieve 100,000 miles for the given period. I had previously been told that I had acquired 1600,000 miles but with hindsight I believe this included award miles as well. However the issue that killed me is that the Miles & More service team cannot provide details of the number of the status miles required to achieve the million miles.so I was denied the chance of making up the shortfall. I have written to them asking what can be done to salvage the situation but so far no reply. To make matters worse I paid 2,000.00euros for one year of Senator status but got a frequent traveller card instead. I feel that there is not much more I can do I am afraid. Thanks for your observations.

The lurkers posted the guidelines again on VFT:
Hallo 640C,
Roman

What a pity I just stumbled by coincidence on this topic. I am mid-40, 6 years of SEN status. But ... I did not know about this very interesting perk. As you know SEN/Gold status is valid for 2 years, so you only need to make 100k in one of the 2 validity years . That is what I have been doing and as soon as I reached 100K in one year, mostly towards September, I switched to other programs such as Skywards or local carrier reward programs, to try and squeeze in some miles there too. I could have chosen to stay within *A after I got 100K status but there was no added benefit in my eyes. Now it appears there is :-(.
The 2nd year of your Gold status was also a dead year (or the first year), you only needed 100k miles in one of the 2 years, so one of those is 'dead', no incentives to go for another 100k. They do not piggy back. I.e. if you would do 100k in year 1 and 100k in year 2, that did not give you 4 years of Gold certainty.
I need to rethink everything now. But I am afraid I lost too much now, i.e. in those 6 years I likely have about 450K miles or so, as the second year I was building up miles/status with others, which at least costed me 150k on miles that would have accounted.
I wonder though, if I reach it after all in 4 years time, I would have 10 years of SEN and hopefully with 1 million miles, but I would be 49 years old then. Will they dig me up again when I am 60? Or do I need to plan this out better?

I wouldn't bother. Who knows if the rule is still around in 15-20 years. I'm with M&M since 2000 and was FTL in 2000-06 and SEN since 2006. Despite the two stars on my card I seriously doubt that M&M will give a rodents behind for me in 2034.

I have been granted life long SEN status the year in turned 60. I have been travelling for business for more than 30 years with at least 15 years SEN status and a total of 2 Million miles flown. As I was not aware of such privilege it was a truly nice surprise when Lufthansa informed me about it. All I had to do was send a copy of my ID.

Second that. Was LX Circle and then MM HON Circle for over 20 years in a row, when my travel patterns changed. One would have thought that may have led to a gesture (lifetime FTL perhaps ) but 0 other than being taken off the HON invite list for the last two months as HON and a letter telling me I would be downgraded and soon receive my SEN card. Still easily make SEN, but because of coincidental travel pattern, not bothered if lifetime SEN will still be around when I reach 60 (luckily still a few years off ) even though under the current rules I would meet (other than age) the criteria.

Can one loose Lifetime SEN status by collecting over 100,000 status miles in 2018?
Good morning to all,
a friend (60+) who has become Lifetime SEN in fall 2011 is "worrying" about the fact that he will collect over 100,000 status miles during this year 2018.
His current SEN card is valid until February 2020 and normally (by November 2019) he would receive a new SEN card valid until February 2022. During the past calendar years (2012 through 2017) he has collected about 30,000 status miles per year, so never as much as now during 2018. Miles & More has sent him new SEN cards every second year since (during November 2013, 2015 and 2017) as he was Lifetime SEN.
Could it happen that passing the 100,000 status miles threshold for requalification the Miles & More system would cancel his lifetime SEN status and oblige him to requalify again every second year (consequently in 2020 or 2021) with (currently) 100,000 status miles ?
Is loosing Lifetime SEN a real risk, so he could avoid passing the 100,000 status miles threshold by (for example) switching his earning preference to UA MP for one longhaul segment ?
Thank you in advance for your inputs - cheers,
juan516.

Curious how they will deal with potential lifetime SENs till 2021... will they still look at your record when you are >60 and about to lose your SENhood? Or just wait and let the new system kick in?

My wife is in that lifetime limbo. She is over 60 with 12 years continuous as Senator through 2018 but this year she will not reach 100K. She has only 1 status star. Her SEN status was expiring Feb 2020 but on 5/11/2019 her online account shows renewal of SEN status with an expiry of 2022 and 2 e-vouchers. Not sure what's up.
