I have experienced this on my JFK flight on LX … you do need to ask for it … I‘d say they do that 20% of the time … the rest of 80% they offer without asking.

Shame on your 20% then (0% in my case). What’s next, asking for breadsticks?

Made the same experience: On the "day" flights (including all westbound flights to North America, most recent datapoint to YUL late last year) the PJs are now "on request" only and are not proactively offered anymore. When I asked for one, that's what the FA said.
