Covid19: Lufthansa requires face masks [May 2020-September 2022]
Your safety and well-being are our highest priority.
We therefore kindly ask you to use a face mask on all your travels with Lufthansa as of Monday, May 4, during your stay at the airport as well as onboard. All Lufthansa Group cabin crew with direct customer contact will of course also be wearing appropriate protection. Together we can ensure that travel remains safe even in times of the coronavirus.
We kindly ask you to bring your own face mask and, for the sake of sustainability, we recommend a reusable cloth mask. Of course, you may use any type of face covering, such as simple disposable masks or even scarves.
For now, wearing a face mask remains mandatory until August 31, 2020.

Lufthansa Group’s recent provision of free adjacent seats in Economy and Premium Economy class no longer applies, as covering your mouth and nose provides sufficient protection to your health. However, due to the current low seat load factor, seat assignments will be spaced apart as much as possible throughout the cabin. In general, infections remain highly unlikely on board a plane. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, there has not been any known case of infection onboard a Lufthansa Group flight. The air on all Lufthansa Group aircraft circulates vertically, and, in addition, they are equipped with high quality air filters that ensure an air quality similar to that of an operating room.

Empty next seats as social distancing are not sustainable due to their cost.
Who is afraid can also not fly.
I am pretty sure, that there will be enough people not affraid (me included) for fulfilling at least 30% of pre-covid planes.

I have no problem with what LH is deciding, it's their call, but their justification that this does not increase any risks and face masks compensate for the lack of social distancing is just bs.
They can do what they want, but it's clearly for commercial interest, which they try to hide in their announcement.
Of course there will be enough people that will fly (me not included), I'll sit back waiting until my next planned flight, which will be in September, when things will hopefully have calmed down.
I just hope people are careful enough that we won't have to endure a second wave.

since this virus isnt going anywhere, if people start to gather again, second wave will happen.
cant think of a place where lots of people gather closer than in an airplane. Perhaps in transportation like subways and busses, or in crazy nightclubs...

So Lufthansa is directly contradicting the BMG, undermines its communications and do not even mention washing hands and ensuring there will be soap at all times in all plane lavatories.

Ive got no interest in flying with a mask on. It all sounds so miserable I would rather stay at home.

Is a face mask mandatory to go shopping? Maybe where you live, but not everywhere.
And as for flying with a face mask: if I have absolutely no other choice I'd accept that, probably. But I would not be flying back and forth that much (just to go home for the weekend for instance), that's for sure.
And instead of taking LH (group) through FRA, ZRH, VIE or MUC I'd take a direct low cost flight (to shorten the time with a mask on, assuming that that low cost airline still flies of course).

Let's ask the question the other way round. Do you prefer to get infected with the risk of major health problems instead putting a mask?

I took four LH flights during the last 3 weeks. Most wore mask, and virtually none wore them accurately. Some put them off on a seat, ate a sandwich and then put it back on - a great way to get infected.
