Senator status validity

Hello,

I am Senator since 2016; always re-qualified in every year. In 2019, I also requalified with >100.000 Status Miles

However, I left Germany in 2019 so I might not requalify for Senator status in 2020 and the new qualification system will make it even more difficult to requalify in 2021 if I have to fly Lufthansa or Partners that mostly fly in Europe.
I just saw in my Status Management that my Status is only valid until Feb 2021; I however was under the impression, that the Status -still- holds 2 years, so I should have the status for 2020 and 2021, correct?

Or did they cap the status already to 1 year?

Thanks
Julian

I am in the same requalification 'rhythm', as you are: You will see your 2-year status extension ~Nov 2020 in your profile and your SEN status will extend until 02/2023. So you are correct that you will keep your status for 2020 and 2021, but also for 2022 (+ first 2 months of 2023). Due to the new re-qualification rules, the year 2022 will be the first possibility to requalify (for 2023).

Welcome to FlyerTalk, Jules944!

Status renewal is still valid for two years. If you first qualified as SEN in 2016 your status must have been valid for the remainder of 2016, plus two calendar years (2017 & 2018) and the first two months of 2019. You needed to requalify by collecting 100k status miles either in 2017 or 2018. This should have extended your SEN status until February 2021. You then had/have to collect 100k status miles EITHER IN 2019 OR 2020 to requalify.

What message do you see on your Status Management page? If you see something like “You still require xx,xxx status miles to extend your Senator status” it means you have not requalified and need to collect 100k status miles in 2020. If you did requalify in 2019 the message will have changed to tell you how many HON miles you need for HON status.

If you think you have collected more than 100k status miles in 2019 but your status shows the expiry date of February 2021, do you have anything to show the balance of your status miles in December 2019? Like a screenshot? If you have your email notification turned on you should receive monthly statement of your status, award and select miles balance. As a SEN you should also have access to some or all of last year’s transactions.

If you think there was an error and your SEN status was not renewed despite collecting 100k status miles in 2019 you might like to contact LH Lurkers in their thread. Feedback thread for the official LH Lurker(s), LufthansaGermanAirlines

Thanks both for the nice messages and the warm welcome.
@NewbieRunner - yes, I completed more than 100.000 Status Miles in 2019 and have a screenshot to prove it from my mail account.

If I go to my Status Management on my M&M Account it says that I "reclassified" (on the right side) but it says "valid until Feb 2021"

Sadly I cannot attach a picture yet as I am not "senior" enough

What do you guys think I should do?

Thanks!
Julian

Don‘t worry. You need nothing to do. All SEN, whose status is valid until 02/2021 and who have requalified already, get the same information shown as you get.

As Viennafly said, the internal process for requalification will start around November 2020. At that time your status validity will change to 02/2023 and you will get 2 evoucher.

Why is M&M doing it that strange way? Hard to say. It would be better if they show the new status validity right after the requalification. Maybe it‘s because they want to book the evouchers at the same time for some reasons and as late as possible.

Thank you, thbe!

So assuming I don't re-qualify this year (need to fly a lot of Oneworld & Thai Smile this year which won't give me LH M&M miles), I should have the status until 02/2022, correct?

We can then close this thread

Thanks
Julian

02/2023 - under the old system, it always adds 2 years of validity

I will requalify by end of this year and HON status will become valid once more for two years until 02/23. My question is, how to qualify for the year 2023 according to the new rules? Is this by HON miles in 2021 or 2022? For example can I have no HON miles in 2021 and then 1500 points in 2022 and then get the HON status for 2023?

it would be by HON miles in 2022 - whatever you do in 2021 won’t matter from what i understand

My understanding is the same. In that case 2021 only matters for lifetime SEN.

Like many here, I am confused on when to requalify.
  • 2019/2020 where re-qualification years for me
  • During 2019 I passed 100k status miles and as such I should have requalified for 2021 & 2022 (old system).
The current 2020 should a dead year for me qualification wise (as qualified in 2019), and luckily it is with all travel restriction in place now (Corona).

However I just noticed my card is saying my status is valid until Feb 2021, but it surely must say Feb 2023?? Since I already should be entitled for 2021 and 2022 full years?

My first year to chase Senator re-qualification should be 2022 correct? Sorry if this has been answered a million times.

Don't worry, it has always been like that. The "valid until Feb 2023" should show up sometime in Nov 2020.

But if you look at your status information in the desktop browser, not the app, you should see that your status has been extended and that your will receive the card with the new validity before the current one expires.

I think 2020 will be the killer year for the FT status for many of us with COVID not looking to go away any time soon, and I see companies increasingly becoming restrictive on travel even beyond Asia.

I'm personally very happy that I requalified in 2019 as SEN so like the OP am safe for now, and was also able to get my BA EC Gold done (my EC year starts in September) just before Corona got big.

I wonder if the airlines will maybe consider at some point to lower their requalification standards for 2020 given these extraordinary circumstances, but I highly doubt it.

Indeed, I barely did any flights this year. Luckily I requalified last year. No way I would be able to make it up with Q1 2020 almost done. So not too worried on flights.
Bummer on Hotel status though. Am Bonvoy Platium and IHG Spire. It's going to be tough to maintain the Bonvoy status with this Covid. As of next week my company if officially banning all business travel until furtehr notice and many events cancelled.
Think the reward programs at hotels / airlines really have to come up with exceptional circumstances measures for status holders
