RIP JP - another East European Airline It follows Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovakia (x2), Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia - all of which saw their flag carriers/major commercial airlines collapse. Very hard to run a full-service airline in a small fragmented relatively low-income market. OU (*A) survives barely because of the summer tourism industry but still makes a small loss, and JU (EY affiliated) has done reasonably well as it got modernized and better management with the EY investment and even turned a profit this year.
The bankruptcy is a shame as I was a regular JP traveler and used it for its great SEE connections, it will have an impact on some third party markets, like SKP, where W6 is the dominant player and JP was an important feeder into the rest of Europe. Also JP ran direct flights from third countries like Kosovo out of PRN to Germany. So that's reduced competition in both airports....
