LH/OS Widebodies on regional routes
Don't know if we had this before.
Lufthansa will fly with the Queen of the Skies the "longhaul" route Frankfurt - Berlin-Tegel during November. The Boeing 747-400 offers Business Class, Premium Economy (not bookable), and Economy. Though, the service should be domestic. [Lufthansa Jumbo Jet innerdeutsch] |
Y+ is prefered seating, should be available for SEN/HON and in OLCI for all.
UD C is bookable. Apparently, C seats will be blocked from full adjustment range (lie-flat) for this flight. |

I wonder as well.
Might be a good way to make a low cost "promotion" of the seat as well - if there are people flying there who could be potential long haul business customers - upgrade them, let them try it out, if just for a couple of minutes - maybe they'll decide biz is worth the price for long flights. But who knows, I mean - it could literally be a question of pulling one circuit breaker for the maintenance. I was also thinking they might just dedicate one 747 for this route, but that doesn't make sense with the schedule as they often have two flights without enough time to go back and forth for a single airplane. (by the way - just noticed. For those looking for 747 flights, looks like Google Flights shows WiFi logo on 747 flights and only on those. So if you put in non-stop FRA-TXL and filter Lufthansa - just look for the logo) |

Right - I mean, they should have the seat fully functional and consider it as a promo for longhaul business.

I know this is a bit offtopic, but could some SEN/HON please check for me if they can select an F seat on the a330 flights in May? I see them as blocked, but I have no status. (June and July seem to be scheduled on a plane with no F at all)

Which day did you try when you found F seats were blocked? I tried random dates in May but the aircraft seems to be without F.

I checked the last May week (28th, 30th, 1st Jun) and all seem to have F cabin.. None further on though.
I also checked EF and all flights show a 4-class configuration but all seats in rows 1&2 are blocked. Even more OT but it reminds me of when LX sent a 343 to ATH in December. I had reserved 2F in Business but didn’t notice when I received my BP via email from Aegean (I was connecting in ATH) that my seat had been moved to 5F. I actually ended up in 5K (a window seat in the mini-cabin) since 5F did not exist on the 343. |

I checked all three dates you listed. I can select seats in rows 1 & 2 but only C or H which don’t exist in F. The only available seats in rows 1 & 2 are actually C and H. Other seats (A, D, G and K) are marked “occupied” but I suspect they are blocked. It makes me wonder if the system is only letting me choose the seats which only exist in C because they don’t know for certain if it will be a 3-class or 4-class aircraft operating the flight. If it’s 3-class I stay in 1C and there may be someone in 1A. If it’s 4-class they’ll move me to 1A since 1C does not exist. Does it make sense?
I also checked EF and all flights show a 4-class configuration but all seats in rows 1&2 are blocked. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f97c8fbf43.png I also saw in EF these are marked as blocked, as opposed to occupied, so I thought they might be available to SEN upwards. Your theory makes sense as well, though in that case I would expect also the middle part to be open, so it might just as well be a glitch. Well maybe someone will fly it and report the actual situation. The May dates didn't work out for me in the end, but I suppose a similar thing might happen in the future, and I'd just hate to take a flight like this for the F cabin specifically, only to end up with F cabin closed off. (It was bad enough I was kicked out off the upper deck on the 747 Berlin flight. At least I got to try out the nose, but still) FWIW, the same situation seems to be true of the Rome flights. |

Interesting. I don't actually see C or H at all, only "occupied" A, D, G and K. This is on desktop btw.

Even though they are selling the F seats (42C +8F) as C they are clearly marked as X 'blocked' and not / restricted. Curious what they will do once the flight is open for checkin and they actuall sell 50 C seats. PE is available to Y pax.

If I have 668.85€ to spare I might reserve 1C in both directions using LH app and see what will happen but since I don’t I won’t be able to find out. :(

LH to fly A330/A340 on multiple European routes (incl. CAI)
|
Interesting. I suppose a MR in business just became a lot more comfortable.

I wish they’d do this to LHR 😁 |
Lufthansa Airbus 340 FRA-LIS?
I am planning flights in September from Frankfurt to Lisbon and by accident found that the 1:15pm, LH 1168 departure is operated by an A340, some days even A340-600.
Checking random dates across September and October it seems this particular flight is always operated by the A340 but only on certain days (MON & TUE as far as I have checked, there could be more) and I would love to book this flight but wonder if this is common since it's unusual to have this large aircraft operate an A320 route. Lufthansa flight LH1168 13:15 Frankfurt/Main International Airport (FRA) , Terminal Operated by: "Lufthansa" Duration: 3h 00min 15:15 Lisbon – Aeroporto de Lisboa (LIS) , Terminal Airbus Industrie A340-600 |
I just found the answer in a nother post which was moved that's why I couldn't find it when I first checked.
It looks like LH is operating the A340 on numerous flights from this summer on European routes. If a moderator sees this, please feel free to delete this post. |

Here's some blogpost https://simpleflying.com/lufthansa-a340-europe-flights/ describing the situation.
I dug deeper, tried searching for multiple dates and to summarise: DUB is fixed on A343 CAI is fixed on A333 VIE gets A346 all the times I checked. Good for fans of downstairs lavs. LIS A346 on Mondays, Tuesdays are A343 All A346 show up as complete cabin with First class seats up in Business seatmaps and PE seats in Economy. That gave me an idea to fly the F hardware for cheap, Lisbon being the obvious choice (=longer flight time), however, you can't book the F seats, they show up as occupied in LH seatmap on booking, and expertflyer.com reports them as blocked. Any chance they'll be released for assignment at time of OCL? https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...37adba33f3.png |
See posts above, they are available to SEN/HON only and sometimes released at checkin.
|
FRA LIS has been operated with A330/340 in summer since a few years. You can blame the cruise traffic for that. VIE-FRA on OS also sees widebodies, this year its OS121 and 123
Code:
** AMADEUS TIMETABLE - TN ** FRA FRANKFURT.DE 01JUN19 08JUN19 |
Fair enough, I’ve managed to score SEN/HON reserved seats before with timely performed on-line checkins before, so I’m taking that chance :D |
And we can only hope to see any of the LH wide-bodies back in TLV some day.
|
I just booked FRA - LIS on the A340-600 and was able to reserve PE seats for an additional EURO 17 per person. Really looking forward to trying out the PE seats on this 2.5 hour long flight. :)
Let's hope there won't be an aircraft downgrade between now and October. |
The FRA-MUC shuttle has two rotations with A333 on Mondays and Fridays this summer:
Code:
TNFRAMUC/ALH96 |
With a major tradeshow and pentecost vacays coming up FRAMUC will get some serious widebody action this week:
Code:
TNFRAMUC/ALH96,LH116 |
Oh, Intruiging. I'll be flying FRA-MUC (for the first time actually!) on 12th September on LH98. I'm hoping for it to be another busy week and since I'm connecting from LH F I'm hoping for a nice substitution by an A346 so I could get the F seat on that flight :D
I guess if that is the case the widebody would be used on LH96, so I'd have to ask in the FCT to be put on the earlier flight out of FRA. I guess I will see if and how this turns out on that day :) |

Hey. I'm flying LH1169 (LIS-FRA) on the 15th with a companion in business class and I wonder how we snag two seats in first class on that flight (they are shown as blocked)? We are both Star Alliance gold, but not with Miles&More.

I’m flying LH1169 tomorrow and I have received alert from Expertflyer on Friday afternoon (roughly the time the flight leaves on Mon) that the seats in row 1 and 2 have been released and are available for reservation. Fingers crossed for equipment swap tomorrow... |
