What should I expect from LH because of this delay [from DEL to JFK via FRA]
Hey everyone,
so I was supposed to be flying DEL-FRA-JFK right now, however the DEL-FRA flight is delayed 4.5 hours currently because the incoming aircraft from FRA was diverted to HYD. I’m going to miss my connection to JFK, and it looks like the latest option to NYC for tomorrow is LH402 to EWR at 1:30pm, but I’m not sure if I’ll make that either considering we’re currently scheduled to land in FRA at 12:30pm.
Anyway, if I need to overnight in Frankfurt and take the flight to JFK on 1/5, will LH pay for my hotel? Ticket is paid F and booked through UA so it’s a 016 ticket FWIW. Or should i be proactive and book my own hotel and try to get reimbursed?
It’s actually my first time needing a hotel for an overnight delay so not sure what the best option is, what LH owes me etc.
thanks for the help!

In F LH would be expected to take very good care of you, Hotel at the airport in FRA, Sheraton or Hilton, access to First Class lounges since you have an onward connection, & you can go in & out as you wish. Food & drinks voucher for the hotel also.
Do report back on their F support ?

Well it actually ended up going in my favor! Because of the snowstorm in New York the JFK flight was delayed by 3 hours, so I was able to make it with minutes to spare. Just boarded so if all goes well I should make it to NY only 3 hours late. Not bad.
LH did provide an F agent to escort me from the arriving aircraft, through security and back to the gate for the JFK flight which helped a lot, because we were able to take some backside staff only hallways to make it quicker.

I got that service when I was FTL in Y in MUC
When I experienced delays, usually airlines - not just LH - will not very likely offer rebooking unless you've basically already missed the aircraft, for the very reason what happened here, unless there is an easy solution (say, you booked ZRH-MUC-FRA-PEK, and ZRH-MUC is delayed, making you probably missing the rest, while ZRH-FRA would easily let you make the connection).
Delays often have a main reason, and that main reason often delays other flights too.
One thing to note is that IF that happens to anyone travelling on such ticket via FRA/MUC, even for F pax you couldn't get landside without holding the ability to enter Schengen. So an Indian national, for example, would be left stranded airside without the chance to get landside.

I am on LH 400 (same flight?) and it is being diverted to ATL from JFK because of the storm. What should we expect?
Also, anyone know if it's possible just to terminate the trip in ATL after a diversion? Or whether they will rebook me to a destination other than NYC? I'm supposed to be in Philadelphia tomorrow morning.

LH is putting us in the Hilton for tonight and offering a bus to NYC tomorrow. 14 hour ride, no thanks. I found myself a united flight to ewr at 7am tomorrow let’s hope that takes off. I booked using my miles not expecting LH to do anything so soon.

LH handled this very well for me. They booked me on a Delta flight to PHL tonight, which is where I wanted. It was an exception, they said, but because PHL is less than 250 Miles from JFK it was possible. Good luck to EWR tomorrow!!

LH 400 turned round near Ireland and is now circling over the North Sea close to the UK coast.
LH410 MUC-JFK also turned round near Manchester and is now circling over Yorkshire .

i don’t understand how this can happen (depart and then run into capacity issues that force to return without any kind of new events in between at JFK)...
