Well, first of all: Congrats to LH!

Secondly: Hope LH lives up to the 5 stars now.

Not the painting, no, but they would have to have first reached agreement on a deal to display the Skytrax mark on their aircraft. That takes more than a couple of days.

As a hesitant J FF on LH, I just wanted to chime in: this is hilariously embarrassing not just for Skytrax, but for LH actually advertising this.

There's no way that any frequent flyer would take this 5 star rating seriously.

10 stars for embarrassing. Are they actively trying to remove even the last bit of credibility from Skytrax?

I don't think much of Skytrax, but LH isn't the worst Skytrax 5 star airline for sure.

An article in yesterdays (WE 6 Dec 2017) "Handelsblatt" (a German paper itself) entitled "Herr der Sterne" states that Skytrax & its chief Edward Plaisted is challenged due to insufficient transparency in its ratings.
Further it mentions prominent airline consultants in Germany saying that the rating can be bought.

For sure it can be bought. And probably not that cheap. Now I understand why LH has to save money by cutting down on services. Better invest it into the rating.

Releasing press releases and even painting planes for such a farce is imho awkward. Every frequent flyer knows that LH is a solid 4*, but never a 5* Airline.

Just saw a 320 (or 319) with '5 Starhansa' in FRA - this is silly.

Absolutely. In related news, anyone planning to fly a lot in 2020 and 2021 will now be granted HON status if they write and ask nicely.

Does LH lose this designation now that it plans to charge for food/drinks in Y on short haul? It should.

It never ever was anywhere near a 5 star airline and anyone who gives Skytrax any credence needs their head examined.

I agree, with them charging for drinks and snacks next year and F class being wiped out...bye to those 5 stars.

? Surely the death knell for 5* will be Carsten's marketing budget?

Skytrax has found a new business line by certifying/rating airlines on covid response... I doubt they will touch any rating of any airline for quite some time. Curious what they will do with QR now that C pax don't get to use all services depending on their fare class.

Skytrax is the last place I would look and indeed trust for any rating on airline safety and covid.
