LH 458 MUC-SFO (A340) at SMF (Sacramento)

I saw it land this evening. Does anyone know how it came to be at SMF? Diverted from SFO, perhaps?

Looks like it's the incoming Munich flight (LH458). Landed at SMF at 1918.

We've had some lightning in the Bay Area tonight that could have impacted SFO ops.

Bay Area sees more than 800 lightning strikes in 5 hours

The thunderstorms at SFO completely overwhelmed whatever preparations (if any) were made. Inbound flights were diverted to OAK and SJC, and then to SMF, RNO, LAS, and even LAX as the airports filled up.

They have very limited international service from there. These are flights due in from Guadalajara on Monday night at 2130 and 2230, so just a question of how much earlier they'd be on duty to deal with those.

Interesting flight path for the diversion.

Almost 4 hours on the ground at SMF - not my idea of heaven.

At least they got to their destination. And everyone landing at SMF knows you are connecting no matter where you are going.
