The first batch of 10 metals will be based in MUC.

Isn't it quite early to replace the A340-600 since most are merely a decade old? I thought the A350-900 was intended to replace the aging A340-300 fleet.

At first: Thanks for the link, NA-Flyer!

If you have a look on the capacity stated in the corresponding document it shows:

"The aircraft will accommodate 293 passengers: 48 guests in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 224 in Economy Class."

This capacity is nearer to the A340-600 than to the A340-300!

However I am curious to know if Lufty deploys the plane in Y with 2-5-2 or 2-4-2 seating. Airbus it is markets the plane as Extra Wide Body.

So you can use the width to accommodate another seat per row or to make every seat extra wide.

To base it in Munich is just fair. Munich only had seven or so ever flights with the flagship A380 and also got no B747-800i.

I wouldn't be surprised if they went for 3-4-3, but it probably will be 3-3-3.

Well in comparison, Qatar have;

36 Business class
247 Economy

And they have 3-3-3 in their A359

So for LH to get this many passenger in then it must be 3-3-3. Given that the 787 is about 12cm narrower inside the cabin and almost everybody has 3-3-3 now I think that given the economics of air travel these days then 3-3-3 is almost a given!

Of course the Qatar business class probably takes more room with fewer passengers due to the 1-2-1 design (and very nice it is too!), and I can't see LH doing anything other than 2-2-2

I wonder if LH will install newly designed business class seats or may be an updated seat in the A350 or they will just keep the current C seat?

As comparision, this is SQ capacity for the A350

The new aircraft features a three-class configuration, with 42 seats in business, 24 in premium economy and 187 in economy.

I guess LH will squeeze in what they can incl their crappy new C seats.

FT doesn't allow all caps titles...

The announcement today was nothing new, see slides in post #6. The 346 was inducted into the fleet in 2003-2006. By the time all the 779 and 359 are delivered their time will have come.

The part about the gas guzzling is BS, the bad performance of the 346 (compared to a B77W) is compensated via a bonus scheme Airbus agreed to with LH that is based on the current oil price. Maybe it was limited to 10-15 years only.

Some information published today on http://www.businesstraveller.com/new...munich-to-delh

...Delhi and Boston “expected to be the first destinations....
Lufthansa will not offer a first class cabin on the new-generation Airbus aircraft. Instead they will be configured with;
48 business class seats
21 premium economy
224 in economy

for a total of 293 seats.
Confirming some things mentioned before

So are they ahead of schedule or does it really take five more months from this stage for the aircraft to be delivered?

I sure hope they considered a redesigned all aisle access seat in business. If not for the A350s, then at least for the 777Xs. By the time they begin taking delivery of the 777Xs, even laggard United will have their entire intl. fleet outfitted with an all aisle access business class seat!
