For me most interesting is the permanent change of FCL routes - very confusing for customers. HKG no FCL from FRA anymore (747-4); PHL and Charlotte gets FCL or DEL no FCL anymore.
HKG is A346 from FRA plus A388 from MUC now. Will be replaced by B744 from FRA and A346 from MUC. Loses half the F, a lot of C and some Y capacity. What’s the problem with HKG for LH?

LX still do the B77W fortunately.

Is LH planning to restart Khartoum soon? They are advertising flights online from the UK to the Sudanese capital in November 2019 once a week for Ł666 with the slogan “realise your dreams”. Lots of info too on what to visit in Sudan etc.

No longer speculation: https://www.newswire.ca/news-release...e3cQ-aWkA8yF4g

Also today, Air Canada announced it is suspending its summer seasonal, Ottawa-Frankfurt service. The last flight on this route will be operated on October 24, 2019. Customers travelling to Europe from Ottawa next summer will have an additional option to fly to Frankfurt on a new seasonal service provided by our Star Alliance partner Lufthansa, which will begin operating on May 16th, 2020 and end October 24, 2020.

You drive an extra 2 Hours for a little extra hon miles (on this very short route)?

Last year my HON miles to YUL (excluding the feeder flights between BRU and MUC/ZRH) totalled 45,000. As opposed to flying to YOW on AC metal and get none... I did bite the bullet on one trip though, as I had to travel with someone else who was already booked on AC.

In my case, every little contribution helps towards qualification... Luckily, Canadian highways aren’t that bad

Wow, can't believe they're running this on an A340. Biggest bird Ottawa has seen in quite a while.

Great news for Ottawa! That is a big plane though...add that to the fact that AC is going from 763 to 788 on YOW-LHR, I hope YOW can absorb the capacity!

On another related note, with all the recent LH and M&M action at YUL, is there any chance LH would consider opening its own lounge in YUL? Next summer, they'll be flying daily, or almost daily, on their own metal, from YUL to:

FRA
MUC
VIE
ZRH
BRU

Yeah I was surprised they didn't go with the A330, but I suspect it's because they didn't feel the premium demand was there to fill the A330's 42 J seats (vs. 30 for the A340).

Biggest since AC subbed in the 330 to FRA for a few weeks 3 or 4 years ago...it too was reduced to 5x weekly while subbing for the 763. Remember way back when on the days of the week YOW-LHR stopped at YMX, AC would use a mix of 343s and 747s?

I think the metal swap to LH is great news for YOW. It’s the first network European airline to fly to the Capital since KL left in 1996.

That would be the irony as I’d finally be able to go straight to YOW!

Seriously though, isn’t lack of terminal space a reason why AC still has no Signature lounge in YUL, despite flying Signature class out of there? Then I doubt LH would find a good spot either.

details of LH announcement

The LH announcement says YOW-FRA will be operated with an A340. Here are the details eff. May 2020:

Lufthansa adds Ottawa service from May 2020

Posted 12 September 2019 08:30

Lufthansa in summer 2020 season plans to introduce Frankfurt – Ottawa service, opened for reservation yesterday (11SEP19). Lufthansa will operate this route 5 times a week from 16MAY20, replacing Air Canada’s seasonal service.

A340-300 aircraft to operate this route.

LH472 FRA1345 – 1605YOW 343 x35
LH 473 YOW17:50 - 07:15 x 35
This is a big step up from the aging B767s operated by AC. Also, 5 x per week is impressive!

While FRA is not my fav airport, LH is more likely to get a gate assignment!
