LH drops 747-8i from US routes?

We’re scheduled to fly on LH in mid-December, including FRA-ORD. I was very excited due to us flying in J and being able to fly up top on the 747-8i. Happened to check our flights now and I notice a change...no more 747-8i, now A359 😔 I did some quick searching and at least in mid-December, the A359 replaces the 747-8i for both the FRA-ORD and FRA-LAX routes. Quite disappointing but I knew there was a reasonable chance this would happen with COVID and smaller planes being swapped in. Anyone have anymore context?

The 359s have no First Class cabin.

That is disappointing (but somewhat understandable).

I also have the plane swap for FRA-LAX in November.

While I love the A350 in general, my partner had never been on the upper deck and was looking forward to it!

Frightening load factors on longhaul: 30% ex FRA and 18% ex MUC. Regional has fallen below 50%.

India expected to resume later this week with 10 flights a week.

Replacing the 748 with the A359 on the FRA-LAX/ORD route could very well be cargo-related - less cargo loads or lower cargo unit revenue. After all, the pax loads in the summer months could have been handled easily by the A359 or smaller equipment as well.
Or maybe flight crew employment contracts were in play as well.

The A359 also uses 12% less fuel for the same mission (freight and pax).

Just 12%? I'd have thought it would be substantially less. Or is that on a seat kilometre basis as opposed to trip cost?

pax/cargo unit transported basis. Obviously not total. The Pax/cargo Numbers are different: B748 (364pax 38 LD3 containers) A359 (293/36).

Yet Helga proudly declared those A359 are so environmentally friendly, just last week that was a justification for the A359 use. What a con with those LF. With loads like that the environmentally friendly thing is to ground.
