Excellent point in terms of being better appreciated on the ground. Next time... Although since it was around 1030 am local (and for me 0430 am since I stayed on US time), I wasn't too focused on the Champagne and was waiting for take off and reaching cruising altitude so that I could sleep.

Similar to others, I walked on the plane and noticed that a bottle of the Roederer 2007 was chilling in an ice bucket on the bar in the center of the 748 cabin. I was offered a glass as a PDB, and so I asked if any of the Heidsieck was available. The FA seemed confused and said it was just the Roederer. I had a few sips of the Roederer and it's certainly not a bad Champagne. But then the FA came back with a grin and an open bottle of the Heidsieck and said, "My colleague found it!" He then poured me a big glass

Heidsieck served on the ground MIA-FRA on Wednesday. No 2007 Roederer in sight

No reason to get excited. Where Lufthansa puts a full-page insert into their wine list to offer a second champagne (and they only do for particular routes), they load one (!) bottle for the flight. Last year, those special champagnes included Dom Perignon and Taittinger Comtes des Champagne Rose. I had four flights in 2017 from SIN to FRA (as in one of the longest flights LH flies) and they confirmed that catering is one bottle.

The above situation is slighted where Heidsieck Blanc des millenaires is loaded as the standard champagne (and that's 3 bottles per long haul flight) and one bottle Roederer 2007 where duties are paid so they can open it on the ground.

I don‘t get excited over champagne, but like the new choice as much as I like the fact that LH changes its champagne every month, as stated before. It has never happened that they ran out of champagne on me, but then again, I usually switch to some wine after a glas or two of bubbly with the caviar and the starters.

I confess to getting excited about Champagne 🍾

I too like the variety but it’s important that the Quality is fit for purpose in First Class on a 5* Ailrine ( allegedly )

They have run out of Champagne on a number of occasions, which for First Class IMO is unforgivable, however they have always sought to make amends afterwards.

Right.
And when the special/featured/extra-page Champagne is Roederer 2007, it's pretty weak.

Well, I am happy with one higher end and one medium-range bubbly and would rather like to see them up their wine game. In comparison with LX, the wines on LH are often severely lacking.

I definitely agree with your second sentence and also compared to other carriers' F wine offerings.

Same here.

Despite the fanfare of the LH Wine Menu card the actual Wine budget is considerably behind other airlines.

Sometimes I get the impression that they need the master of wine just to get the best possible wines for the little money they are prepared to pay.

Wow... I’ve done countless F flights on LH and have never ever had them run out of champagne (and it’s amost all I drink on board... along with a little water lol)
