Automated check in offered to use aged ticket from 9/2010
Hi,
strange thing happened to me recently on my way from MUC to VIE.
Upon checking in at the check-in machines in MUC, I was shown not only my ticket on LH7238, but also a second ticket VIE-MUC dated 10.9.2010 (!).
I did some research in my books and found this must have been an unused portion of a "B" fare MAD-MUC-VIE ticket (I had stopped my journey in MUC when travelling). Mind you, more than 12 months back and no stop-over allowed on the original fare.
I did check in with this portion, and upon chatting with the lady in the lounge she had a look at fare rules etc. and was puzzled the boarding pass came out of the machine. I did fly this portion without any problem.
Anyone else had a similar experience?
David

When LH migrated the ticket database into the Amadeus Altea system last year some unused coupons have been reactivated and are available for use. This includes tickets that may have been rendered invalid in the past <cough> <cough> due to various reasons.

Maybe time to ask for the taxes to be refunded on those unused tickets?

Hi,
I did get the B-fare mileage.
As for refunding of ticket/YQ/tax, I asked and was told that of course "no way" as the ticket was deemed invalid. However, the nice lady handed back the ticket smiling and said that if I wanted I could just fly it.

Maybe some more comments:
- I had been to MUC a few days before and the ticket did NOT show up at the checkin machine; however, back at the last trip in November it had shown up (so seems to be on-and-off)
- I was able to rebook ticket to later flights, and tried to do that. Worked twice, but then I wasn't able to get the screen to offer me the "change flight" item any more.

You should be able to change it using the 'my bookings' function on lh.com. There are more unused coupons to be found if you go to the ticket desk and ask them to pull up your record in altea...
