Looks like its gonna be only DEL that will get the A380. LH will have to wait for some time before they can start the A380 flights to Mumbai....the BOM terminal in still under construction and they have only one gate that can accommodate the A380 at present.

Read that. Quite a disappointment that the airport can't handle more than one A380 at a time at present. It could be a while until the second bay is ready. Is there any chance that LH would use A380 on their FRA-BLR route? Currently they use 747-8, so probably there is demand and BLR has yet to see a scheduled A380 service.

I think the second bay will be ready in 6-9 months. Anyways BOM had to take a decision and they decided to give the gate to their biggest customer after the local Indian airlines. While LH has two daily flights (FRA & MUC), EK has 5 daily flights out of BOM and will only be happy to increase the numbers as and when the bilaterals allow them to.

LH A380 Hong Kong

It’s coming: the Lufthansa A380 will be serving Frankfurt & Hong Kong route daily from 24 October 2015.

The time has finally come: Lufthansa’s flagship, the jumbo A380, the world’s largest and most modern passenger jet will depart Frankfurt to Hong Kong starting this winter schedule from 24 October 2015.

The schedule times are as follows:

Flight Number Routing Departure Time Arrival Time
* LH796 Frankfurt - Hong Kong 22:15 16:15+1
* LH797 Hong Kong - Frankfurt 23:40 05:20+1

So the 748i is being taken off this route completely?

It looks like LH is switching the A380 FRA-IAH servce to a 747-8 on December 18 of this year. Does anyone know if this is going to be a permanent change?

Doesn't look like it. It's back to A380 from the 1st of March.

5, serving 3 destinations. HKG, MIA and SFO during the winter timetable. One of the 5 birds in currently getting repainted to the new livery in CAN.

Does anyone think/know if it is likely that LH would replace 747-8i on FRA-ORD with a A380? Timing?

Unlikely due to issues with the airport.

Chicago is actually a very space restricted airport and it is difficult to manoeuvre an A380 around the taxiways and there is I think still just 1 gate capable of handling an A380 which is in the international Terminal (more are planned in the international terminal when it expands).

BA do fly an A380 there, but I think one of the problems is that currently Lufthansa aircraft arrive at the international terminal but depart from Terminal 1, and T1 does not have any A380 gates.
So Lufthansa would have to depart from the international terminal, which is not so convenient for connections and confusing for passengers used to leaving from T1 (plus they really would not want some flights departing from T1 and some from the international terminal). They would also have to fight for space with BA for the single gate, and if there is a delay or problem then this becomes a big issue!

I also ready that Lufthansa or United would have to pay to upgrade a T1 gate to A380 standard, as the airport is not will to do this. But because of space constraints it could mean in fact losing another gate. For just 1 A380 flight a day, then this does not make commercial sense.

At the end of October there was some speculation (then refuted by Lufthansa) that an order for some new A380neos was imminent. This was later refuted by Lufthansa – a new tweet could breathe life back into this rumor:

something special is on its way! This year we will unwrap the big presents early. Stay tuned for more! #LHA380 #ExploreTheNew

What will be coming? New Interiors, new paint job, new orders or will LH purchase some of the A380 returning from leases at other airlines (e.g. AF)?

Not trying to be overly pessimistic, but I think they are just referring to the 1st 380 (D-AIMD) getting repainted in CAN right now.
