Pointe Noire emerging as a new LH destination

One more oil route, this time in Congo:

Lufthansa will also challenge Air France-KLM Group on one of its most profitable routes by starting a service between Frankfurt and Pointe Noire in the Republic of Congo, the newspaper said, citing an unidentified Star Alliance official.

It's confirmed now and loaded in the GDS.
As of November, Pointe Noire is served via Libreville by Privatair with five weekly flights. While Libreville receives nonstop service instead of the one-stop via Accra, it's a major capacity downgrade from 333/343 to 738. Seems to be tough to fill the economy seats ex Libreville.

......it depends from what angle you are looking at.
I think it is a major aupgrade in capacity.
First of all, it is now a no-stop flight to Libreville and secondly on previous A330/340 flights most of the Y seats were sold ex Accra.

333/343: C44 Y222 shared with Accra

738: C32 Y60 shared with PNR

Even when the 333/343 was 70:30 shared with Accra (only Y66 for LBV), and PNR gets 0 economy seats, it's still a downgrade in economy for LBV. The market must be difficult in economy and freight is obviously zero.

I took this flight FRA-PNR for the first time recently. I was quite impressed with the service in C. The interior: seats, entertainment, catering, inflight magazines were all LH. and the crew were all Privatair. It was as nice a flight as I've ever had between Europe and West Africa and it was much, much better than some of those flights.

During the stop at LBV, where we PNR passengers remained onboard, the cabin staff were doing a visual reconciliation of the remaining bags in the overhead bins with the remaining PNR passengers and one of the staff recognized my yellow FT baggage tags and commented to me on how he lurks on FT.

My only remaining question is whether AC's aeroplan will credit the miles for this LH flight.

FYI: All miles credited, including class of service bonus, as if it was a regular LH flight (3795 Base Miles + 949 COS for Biz)

Internet Brands has had the tags made. I take a stack with me whenever I go to an FT event to give away. I've sent IB a note asking when they will be added to the store. For now, if you want one, send me an email (not a PM, please) to sandiego1k at flyertalk.com.

Its seems LH didn't renew the contract for one Privatair Aircraft, so the route needed to be cancelled.

It's good news to cancel this flight. What a pain to fly on such long route with a 738 in Y class

Why? Y is bad on any aircraft. Seats are the same. Private Air has a real C-Class.

Survived similar routes on a DC8 in the 80ies without any IFE.

I cannot see where the 738 Y-Class seat is worse that a Y seat in a A340 or so.
Furthermore, 2-2 layout in C is very nice.

By the way, if someone wants to go that route before it's closed, there is currently a Meilenschnäppchen für 40.000 miles + 498 € taxes.
