Compton
I will be heading to Compton next month for 2-3 days for business. Are there any decent places to stay around here?
Any inside track from the locals for a Canadian travelling in this area is greatly appreciated!

Nothing terribly close that could be clasified as a decent business hotel.
Your best bets might be the Doubletree in Carson or the Holliday Inn in Torrance which are each about 5 miles away. Alternitively, there are a number of decent hotels in the Long Beach area (about 8 miles) or the LAX airport hotels (about 9-10 miles).

You may also want to take a look at the Ayers Hotel Manhattan Beach (although it is actually in Hawthorne).
http://www.ayreshotels.com/hawthorne/
It is on Rosecrans Avenue, next to the 405 freeway. Very well rated on Tripadvisor, etc. Downside is that it belongs to an independent chain, so no points.

If you are packing heat and drinking 40's stay in Compton. Just teasing
If I were you I would stay in the Hermosa or Manhattan Beach which is about a 15 minute drive from Compton. These hotels are near the ocean, restaurants and shops.
These 2 hotels are high end
Beach House Hermosa Beach www.beach-house.com/hermosa-beach-hotels.html
Shade Hotel Manhattan Beach www.shadehotel.com
This Hampton in Hermosa Beach is more reasonable. http://www.hamptoninn.com/en/hp/hote...tyhocn=LAXHBHX
Oh and a Holiday Inn Express in Hermosa Beach www.hiehb.com
You might as well stay where you can just walk to go to dinner, go for a walk along the Strand http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-strand-h...A/query:strand and some good people watching too.
They are just 5 miles South of LAX.

Long Beach, with many inexpensive (at least on Priceline) 3* and 4* hotels, and restaurants and attractions, is just a 10-minute drive south of Compton on the Long Beach Freeway (I-710), or just a few stops on the Metro Blue Line light rail.
