UCLA to LAX
I'm looking for advice on getting from UCLA to LAX. This would be around 9pm on a Sunday to catch a 10:30pm flight. I'm look for advice on the best way to make this trip. I'm guessing I should take a taxi. But I have no idea how the taxi system works in LA. Any advice is much appreciated.

There is the new Westwood Flyaway. Pretty much fits the bill.

How long of a ride is this? How reliable of service is it? if I missed the 9pm bus and had to take the 9:30pm one, would I be likely to make a 10:30pm flight?

IMHO, you should be taking the 8PM (or at the latest, 8:30) bus. Takes less than 1/2 hour if no traffic problems--which you probably won't have at that time).
Since the service is pretty new, I have not yet taken it, but the other Flyaway bus services are pretty good on scheduled times. Better going to LAX than coming back as sometimes the bus fills up going around the loop.

I would try for the 8:30 bus and treat the 9:00 pm as my back up. 9:30 is just cutting it too close for LAX. The trip should only take about 20 minutes, though. And take advantage of the advanced back checking if you can.

I actually managed to get in a taxi at 9:50pm and catch my 10:30pm flight. I almost missed it because the flight changed terminals after I looked it up around 7pm. The flight was delayed a few minutes, though, which saved me.

Huh?
You call, they come. The only trick, if there is one, is that certain companies are licensed to only do pickups in certain parts of town. So just be clear with the dispatcher when you order. Or if you're near enough to a hotel in Westwood Village, you can grab one there.
There is road construction near LAX at the moment, and don't forget the uncertainty of security checkin, leave yourself lots of time and then kill it in a bookstore if need be.
