Question Transferring in LAX to YVR

Hi,

I am bound for Canada in December from MEL for a 6 week Ski Trip but we have decided to stop off in HNL along the way for 3 days. From HNL we are doing the overnight flight to LAX arriving around 0550 and have a 4.5 hour layover before heading to YVR. All flights are Qantas/Qantas Code share (HNL to LAX on AA and LAX to YVR on Alaska Air)

1) When checking in at HNL. Is the flight classed as Intl or Domestic.?
2) Will my luggage be through checked to YVR
3) Will I have to clear customs in LAX?

Further details.... I arrive in Terminal 4 in LAX and depart Terminal 3 for YVR

Any assistance would be great!!

Thanks

I can answer questions 1 and 3:

1. Hawaii is a state, and as such is fully part of the United States. There is no customs or immigration when travelling between Hawaii and the mainland U.S. The flight between HNL and LAX is totally domestic.

3. Presumably you will have cleared U.S. customs upon arrival in Honolulu. You will not clear customs again upon arrival in LAX.

As for question 2, I can guess that most likely your luggage will be checked through, but I don't know for sure.

Also, as far as LAX is concerned, flights to/from Canada are considered "domestic." All customs etc is done on the Canadian side (in both directions.)

So your baggage should be checked directly to YVR. And, on your return, you will not need to clear customs at LAX, that will be done in Canada.
