If UA will send it (and UA does have a baggage interline agreement with AS), AS will receive it.
I ran this by several of the AS forum regulars who have better memories than I do, and they all said the following:

1) The policy only affected checking bags with AS and then connecting to another carrier on a separate ticket
2) If UA will check the bags through, AS will receive them
3) They think the policy was relaxed after some pressure anyway (as I had thought, too)

So, I'm pretty sure the OP will be OK checking bags through from UA to AS.

Edited to add: confirmed that they did completely reverse the policy and will now interline on separate tickets again: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alask...e-tickets.html

Well that's excellent news and thanks jackal for following up.

If daniel727 is still reading, your transfer has just been made easier. Check your bag thru to SEA with UA and you don't need to pick it up at LAX or exit security.

I have 1:55 from an AA ORD-LAX flight to a JL LAX-NRT flight. Same ticket. Will my bags be interlined and can I make the connection in time? Will there be an escort? Will JAL take care of me in case I misconnect? Many many thanks

Yes, probably, no, and yes.

Thank you so much LAXative - so I would not need to care about my checked bags at all when I am at LAX? Do I just exit T4 to landside, walk to TBIT and check-in at the JL counters like any other passenger? I am doing this in June 2015.

Cheers

You should be able to walk off the plane in T4 -- go to TBIT -- and go directly to the gate after clearing TSA security. When you checkin, your bags should be tagged all the way through and you should get boarding passes for the international flight as well.

1:55 should be plenty of time. One tip -- walk along the departure (upper) level for a much more pleasant experience. Do not follow the signs downstairs. Exit the same level as TSA security / checkin.

LAX question (intraterminal transfer - connection)

A friend will be flying PHL-LAX-LAS on US in late October. He is concerned about how to get from Terminal 3 in LAX to Terminal 1 (his English is not the best and he doesn't want to start asking in the airport).

I have never been there so I can't tell him -- is it a short walk, a long walk, does it require taking a shuttle bus, is there a train connection?

Is he connecting from US to Southwest? WN is the only tenant in T-1.

If that's the case, then he exits T-3 and walks on the sidewalk about a quarter mile East and he'll be at T-1.

If he's flying US PHL-LAX and then AA to LAS, then he catches a shuttle bus from the sterile area inside T-3 to T-4, where AA resides.

He just brought me his itinerary and you are right -- he had misread it. He lands in LAS at Terminal 1 but he takes off from LAX at Terminal 4 on AA.

Thanks for the help!

You're very likely to be checked all the way through to NRT... if so, then no stop at the JL counters is necessary.

When you arrive at T4 and head to the exit, DO NOT follow the signs to baggage claim. Instead, head down the corridor past Gate 40. You'll see the TSA checkpoint straight ahead... veer right at the police kiosk on your right, veer back left towards the exit past the TSA agents (and DO NOT go down the long escalator before that), and you'll see (shorter) escalators down to the ticketing level Exit any door, and that should put you on the upper departures level. You'll see TBIT to your left, so just a quick left turn, walk down the sidewalk and you'll be there in a minute.

Time from Gate 41 to TBIT should be about 3-5 minutes, with only about 15 feet descending elevation change.

Not all is lost if you go down to baggage claim, you just get to see less sunlight, and eventually have to make your way back up to the departures level of TBIT.

OK. In this case, it will likely require leaving security from T-1, going downstairs and catching a transfer bus to AA in Terminal 4 (which is after the international terminal). Or a significant walk.

Why will he go out of the secure area? He is flying in from PHL.

Yes if he walks, which I think is the easiest way. When he exits the terminal, he goes to the right and essentially walks along the curb with the terminals on his right in a semicircle, passing TBIT. T4 is the first terminal after passing TBIT, so the sequence is T1, T2, T3, gap and quarter turn on a rounded corner, TBIT, gap and rounded turn again, T4, T5 etc. The "quarter turns" are where the sidewalk and roadway curves, so he doesn't need to do anything but follow the path. If he's sees DL (T5), he's gone too far. It's more pleasant to do this on departures level in nice weather, but the pathway is covered on the arrivals level in case it's raining hard when he does this. It's a longish walk since he's now starting at T1 (and not T3 as I thought when I started writing this post), but I find it rather pleasant in good weather.

If he's coming into LAX on US he's landing at T3, not T1. The only airline at T1 is Southwest.

There's an airside shuttle from T3 to T4 so he won't have to exit security to change terminals to AA.

Yes, there are multiple misreads of OP's second post here. The pax is arriving at LAS T1, not LAX T1.

Airside shuttle at LAX from T3 to T4 is the correct answer
