TSA Lost and Found - LAX

I left my laptop, without any markings of ownership on it, at the Priority Access check point in Terminal 4. I've been trying to get hold on someone at the TSA Lost and Found but the numbers I've been provided only get me to answering machines.

Could anyone provide advise on how to get in contact with a human.

It would help to know what numbers you have (maybe even who provided them) so people would know whether they are giving you duplicates, such as this: http://www.lawa.org/welcome_lax.aspx?id=1590 Note that page also gives a LAX police number for filing a police report for insurance purposes (and they may have another TSA number if the one listed is only an answering machine even during business hours).

I assume you called during the hours listed. If all else fails, I'd phone the airline-- the number for their office at LAX, not the main nationwide number.

LA TSA

Here is the # for items left at a checkpoint. TSA does a fantastic job and catalogs left items by make, model and serial # (where appropriate). They will tell you relatively immediately whether they have the item (always possible somebody else stole the thing when you left it) and will, if you can provide description and serial #, Fedex it to you if you provide a Fedex or credit card #. You can also go out to LAX and pick up the item yourself if that's easier.

Note that there are limited hours and you must listen carefully to the recorded instructions which will play through.

This I have done-- twice. It's been nearly two weeks without a single response. The other number not listed is 310-242-9084 and it too does not get you to a human. A confirmation whether or not they actually have the item would be nice and the only way I see doing that now is getting hold on a human. I've also tried calling LAX AA without any further help.

AA has no way of helping you. If you left the item at the checkpoint, it's TSA or nobody (in other words somebody walked off with it). I've managed to do this twice and in both cases had my item physically back within 5 days (and a hefty Fedex invoice).

Yeah, I figured as much. At this point, if I only got the data back, I would be extremely thrilled. I had at least a few 100 hours of work I did not back up on the laptop. In the future, I'll use cloud storage or a private version control repository such as git.

On a side note however, according to some software I have on the device, the computer hasn't been on since I lost it-- at least not connected to a network.

I merely suggested contacting AA to see if there's another method of contacting TSA they could suggest. Obviously they have no authority re the actual items.
