bogota
Im heading to CUZ for a few days in May now(comfirmed 1st class with AV & TPERU.)I booked the afternoon flight to BOG with an hr layover. I would prefer the 767 that goes in the morning over the 757 Ive got, only it'll mean a 6 hour layover, back during the run I used BOG just to connect.
My question is there anything to see in BOG that is interesting with the 6 hr layover? As it is, its back to the DC lounge for the night in LIM.

You know I love BOG. It is a shame you don't have 1-2 days lay over because BOG can be a fun city to just go and explore.
It's actualy fairly safe if you use common sense. There is a good bit of shopping and some nice museums to be seen. Prices are fairly reasonable and far cheaper than in CCS.
When I do only connect in BOG and have 4-5 hours I will leave my bags at the airport in storage and go to one of the nearby malls and just look around stretch my legs and get some decient food.
Taxis are dirt cheap so it runs me about $5.00 each way, with about $6-7.00 for a good meal! Also i've allways avoided the Airport tax when only leaving a few hours latter.

A quick note on the BOG airport tax: I remember it was the highest tax of all airports on my LP trip-- I think it totaled $42 per person for international flights. So, do be sure to get a transit visa.
When you get back to the airport, leave extra extra time for security, because security there was tightest of the LP airports, too.
Just a couple tips.

Tax is: free if Transiting within 24 Hrs.
About $20.00 if your in country less than 30 Days. $40.00 if your in country over 30 days
Compare with CCS where its $35.00 just to overnight it at a hotel, and even if it's caused by a flight that's canceled.
Also the Colombian porters only expect a reasonable tip whereas the venezuelian porters expect $10.00 or more for dumping your bags in front of the taxi!

thanks for the imfo. I decided instead of 3 nights in CUZ Ill do CUZ-MP-CUZ,thusly spending 2 days in MP. I called for a number of tour booklets and it seems this is how they spend the 3 days they are up there. Wont be going to the sacred valley unless I spend 1 day in MP. So 1st day in CUZ(only day to be there-the other Ill get back at night from MP) will be to wander around and get to Sacsayhuman.
as for the departure taxes the only time I got stuck having to pay was LIM-CUZ and LIM-PTY(didnt pay CUZ-LIM,nor in CCS alot of luck, I did the mill run). But this time will have to pay LIM-CUZ,CUZ-LIM,LIM-BOG.

Canadian....what procedure did you use in getting out of paying the columbian departure tax? I recently flew miami-quito on aces , on the return, one must spend an overnight in bogota. WHen i made the reservation aces told me as long as Itell immigration that i'll be leaving on the next flight out in less than 24 hours, i'll not have to pay, which is exactly what i d id ......immigration then told me i'd have to pay half.....bad enough.....the next morning aces told me i'd have to pay the full tax......i argued a good hour then gave up.
