Upgrading w/ Miles - Difficult?

First time LAN flyer, jumped on the crazy LAX-IGU fares for $360 RT

I am booked in some sort of O fare which according the LAN website looks like I am able to upgrade for 24K miles each way between USA and Brazil. I am flying LAX-LIM-GRU-GIG on 11/5 and back on 11/12 IGU-LIM-LAX

First, I want to confirm that is actually true and how hard is it to snag an upgrade with miles? I'd love to do this for my wife and I so now I need to find out the best way to get 96K LAN Pass miles. I am 6 foot 5, so the thought of these flights scares the daylights out of me. I will clearly need some ambien haha.

It looks like the credit card could net the wife and I 50K miles...any other ideas?

Are using AA or BA miles to upgrade completely off the table. It seems that AA is out and didn't see anything re: BA.

Is there anything else I can try to upgrade other than miles? Coupons?

Hi kdnino!
Unfortunately, upgrading with kms is only an option if you are LANPASS elite... LAN coupons are only valid with non-Base (like O) fares.

Thank you for this info - so are these the same coupons that are given with the credit card offers? Are there any other ways to get access to these coupons?

As far as I know, coupons are only given to LANPASS credit card holders or LANPASS elite members. You can't apply a coupon to someone else unless you are on the same flight.

Yup and it looks like the coupons require a $15K spend...

Oh well...

That's what they say, but my second year with the US Bank LANPASS Visa I got 3 more coupons without doing anywhere near that much spend.

it's not going to be useful (can't really "trade" them)...

You can't apply a coupon to someone else unless you are on the same flight.
