Lima, 6 de marzo de 2012.- La emblemática ruta Cusco-Lima fue la elegida para realizar por primera vez en América Latina, un vuelo que utilizó desde el despegue hasta el aterrizaje un sistema de navegación satelital denominado RNP por sus siglas en inglés (Required Navigation Performance). Se trata, sin duda, de un hito en la aviación comercial del continente que ha sido posible gracias al Proyecto Green Skies of Peru (Cielos Verdes del Perú), impulsado por LAN, GE Aviation, CORPAC y la Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil del Perú.
El sistema RNP utiliza la capacidad de la aviónica avanzada de las aeronaves. modernas con el respaldo de una guía satelital. Esto permite realizar una navegación aérea mucho más precisa; operar con total seguridad en condiciones de visibilidad reducida, evitando retrasos y cancelaciones de vuelos; definir trayectorias más cortas y hacer aproximaciones más eficientes; lo cual redunda finalmente en un menor consumo de combustible y una reducción notable de las emisiones contaminantes de CO2 y de ruido al medio ambiente.
En el caso concreto del vuelo Cusco-Lima realizado el día de hoy con el sistema RNP, se logró acortar el recorrido en 30.5 km, lo que significó un reducción de 6.3 minutos en el tiempo de vuelo. Esta eficiente performance hizo que se ahorraran 67.5 galones de combustible y se dejaran de emitir 644 kilos de CO2 al ambiente. Se estima que cuando esta ruta esté completamente implementada traerá un ahorro para todos los operadores del aeropuerto de Lima del orden de 1,700 horas de vuelo y una reducción de 11,000 toneladas métricas de emisiones de CO2 al medio ambiente.
Las operaciones RNP ya son utilizadas por LAN Perú desde el 2009 en los vuelos a Cusco y desde el 2011 en los vuelos a Cajamarca, Arequipa y Juliaca, pero en todos los casos sólo para los aterrizajes. Esta ha sido la primera vez que se aplica esta tecnología para un vuelo completo, desde el despegue hasta el aterrizaje. Cabe mencionar que durante el primer año de implementación del RNP en la ruta Lima-Cusco, más de 30,000 pasajeros de LAN Perú evitaron cancelaciones o demoras diversas en sus vuelos.
El Proyecto Green Skies of Peru contribuirá, de manera decisiva, a la urgente reorganización del espacio aéreo del aeropuerto internacional Jorge Chávez, al ofrecer nuevas rutas para realizar aproximaciones, lo cual permitirá aumentar su capacidad de tránsito aéreo que está llegando a su límite.
