FWIW, here is a CES website. But, I get my hoots from the hotel rate calenders, like this one from the South Point Casino. Judging from the this hotel rate calender, I'd say that CES isn't all that used to be, so avoiding that time might not be completely necessary.

Sure, there's the discount places and off strip places, but the ones on the strip are out of this world. I'm going in for something other then CES (the college football championship game) and I'm coming in from overseas. Venetian is 600 a night lowest rate on line right now. Of course CES is all of the Convention Center, plus Sands, plus I understand they have taken a few floors of the newer tower at Venetian as display rooms, I think floor 29 and 30 for a lot of Audio Companies to display their products. It's bigger then ASD/AMD shows (which I go in for) and if I didn't have a host I wouldn't have gotten a room there and even at that rate I'll bet you that Venetian will be full up even at these rates. I have no idea what the rates CES is showing for rooms at Venetian but I bet you it's a heck of a lot more then whatever their normal rate is.

I didn't even realize it was CES time when I emailed for my room until my host said the car might be late or not running on time to pick me up and to call if I don't see the driver when I land as he said CES would be starting soon and they have lot of folks coming in to set up early.

Talking CES and the Adult Entertainment Show

Yes, Its that time of year again.
Both shows overlap as always.

Last year was a complete ZOO.
Going to pass this year. Just too many people last year.
As far as the Adult Entertainment Show. We waited in line
for like 2 Hours. And that was the VIP line. They had a bar set up
every 20 minutes or so for this "line from hell".
So we were buzzed by the time we got inside the convention.

I just dont see that many of my customers calling me this year in
regards to going to CES and meeting up. So I will assume its
not going to be as hard to get a room at a decent price this year.
I think the shine is off that show a bit this year. Like the old days with
Comdex. It finally got just too big to deal with

For all of you going. Enjoy both shows. Its a blast !!!

Very little left for the 8th, but Golden Nugget downtown is still showing up on hotels.com for $185.

...and I see the Riviera at $184 a night through travelweb.com.

I recall last year they said attendance was down again for CES...in most part due to the dearth of new, exciting products and the fact that many of the smaller businesses that used to come here have folded, due to the cutthroat price cuts by the larger electronics outlets.

It is still a big convention, but no longer commanding the same gouging of prices for rooms as in the past.

No longer gouging? $600 a night? I guess I'm a cheap skate as there's no way I'd pay $600 a night for a room. Will I gamble a good amount, yes I will that's why I can get a comped room on no notice even if they are full up as they always keep a few rooms available especially for overseas guests. But that's my choice and entertainment to gamble. I guess I'm a cheap skate as $600 a night is price gouging to me especially since no matter where I go I never am in the room. I only need a bed and shower that is clean. I go to Venetian not because of the rooms but because I enjoy the hotel, tables, location, services, environment etc... I did not enjoy, or I felt the places were lacking something at Bellagio or Wynn or MGM or TI or Station (which my parents enjoy) or others but did enjoy Mandalay. I'm not a snob as I used to enjoy the dealers at IP and was fine there of all places, I'm just more comfortable at Venetian and I think most folks have their favorite places, especially if they have a good host. If there was another hotel where I was comfortable at, and that place was $30 a night I'd stay there, it just happens that I've been pretty loyal to Venetian over the last five years or so. If my host left to another hotel, then I'd probably try the new hotel once and follow him and if I was happy I'd stay if not I'd go back to the Venetian.

As I said I go in for ASD/ASM and that's not small but I have / had no idea what room rates are lately or during large shows or whatever and 600 a night shocked the pants off me. Now I guess I understand why my family thinks I'm crazy to stay at the Venetian over Station or others. I'm going in for a football game but to make it work also I am having suppliers from the west coast come in to meet me while I am there and they can't find rooms acceptable to them because of CES so a few of them are coming in the morning and leaving that night, not even staying over due to the prices and hotel situation. I'm just glad I have a history with the hotel and can get in and they keep you rated for rooms even during busy times. I just hope they don't put me near the trade show floors but even if they do it probably wouldn't bother me. Heck they could put me in the basement mail room with a shower and I'd be fine.

I am coming in with my hubbie who's attending CES..... but my focus is on the BCS National Championship Game too so I had to respond to you....unfortunately won't be rooting with you .....GO GATORS!

We don't come to vegas often so not sure where would be the best places to see the football game. Any suggestions?

Hey UFgatorgal Happy Holidays. First of all, Urban is an Ohio boy never forget that and he's a great coach, considering that my home (when I'm not overseas) is in FL now I think he was a great get for the school. Plus of the four tickets to the game we got two from OSU and two came from FL.

While I'm not primarily going for CES I did get a Press Badge for the show so I probably will go in for a while, so I might hook up with you folks some time. I know another person on FT that's going to CES and we are looking for getting together on the 9th, I'm pushing for a restaurant in the Venetian (where I"m staying at and I'm such a homer for Venetian ) but I'm open for anything really. So PM if you folks are interested in a drink or dinner or whatever.

As to where to watch the game.... every sports betting area in every hotel will have the game on I"m positive of that, or there's your room of course, or come hang with me. I haven't decided if I'm going out, going to the betting area in Venetian or staying in the room. Most likely in the room as I want to record it on the computers. You can PM me where you're at, plus if you need a place to dump things from the show without going back to your place feel free to use my room as a dumping station. In fact, anyone going to Vegas for CES shoot me a PM. I'm just going to be hanging around and gaming and shopping.

If you're looking for FL fans then the UF Alumni group / Gator Club I think is hosting the game at 5 pm starting at Buffalo Wild Wings at 4280 South Hualapai in Las Vegas. I have the contct info (email) for that group if you want so just PM me if you want that. OSU fans sometimes go to Giuseppe's Bar & Grill but now I think it is at The Kopper Keg Restaurant and Lounge at 2257 S. Rainbow Blvd. I have relations with both schools but when it comes to football I'm only for the Bucks!!

Set up began yesterday and will continue every day by GES employees until the show begins. Signage is being hung outside the convention center with a lot of work inside left to go.
