New and Need Help Planning

Hi Everyone,
I am brand new to this forum, in fact today is my first day, so I do not know if I am in the correct place to ask this or not....
My husband and I over the last years are season cruise travelers because we found this is the best way to travel with our son and too see as much as we can at one time. We have done 6 cruises in all but now that we are empty nesters we thought about doing a Las Vegas trip. We have always wanted to go out there... We are still going to be doing cruise also... We LOVE THEM!
We were there one time for a day only .... and had a blast... Now I need some help... I know absolutely nothing about pricing, flights, etc...
We were thinking about going out there for 6 nights... is that too long... We love to gamble, but we also love to sight see and have heard there is beautiful areas around Las Vegas that you can do excursion too ... Such as Hoover Dam, and such...
Even though it is just the two of us we still need to be on somewhat of a budget... not a real tight one... but we also would like to get the best "bang" for our buck! I have been trying to check out prices on the internet but I am totally confused!!
We would be coming from Central Florida....Orlando area... and thinking about doing this around the 1st of June because we have heard prices are better about that time and it is still not too hot then. Being from Fl we can handle some heat but would perfer to stay away from the 100 or so degree days...
SO if you have any suggestion or if I am on the wrong board if you could please direct me, any help would be appreicated.
If I can help anyone with any of my cruise knowledge I would love to help... We mainly have used Carvinal and have been all over the Eastern, Western, and Southern Carribean, along with South America....
Hope you have a great weekend..

Given that you're on a moderate budget, have narrowed on Carnival as your cruise line of choice (I'll be taking my first Carnival cruise - I've done others - in May.
), and you're probably not after the young, hip crowd, I'd recommend statying at the MGM Grand. If you go during the week (Sunday to Friday, perhaps) you might be able to move up a level depending on your budget. I've been to Vegas a fair number of times and the MGM has become my favorite place for table games. I don't know what you're gambling interests are but MGM has lots of everything. I've found it to have a higher than normal percentage of more modest gaming limits as well, lots of $15 blackjack, for instance.
Since I've gone several times I feel like 3-4 days is plenty in general but if it's your first time and you plan to do a fair bit of sight-seeing (especially day trips), you can probably do okay with longer. If you're looking for the best bang for your buck though, I'd recommend 5 nights: fly in Sunday, leave Friday. Your flights will probably be cheaper that way too.
I'm sure if you search this forum you'll find a ton of information on what to see and others are sure to post suggestions; my only suggestion is to go up the Stratosphere. It's a bit of a hike to get to the Casino from mid-strip and the area between Sahara and Stratosphere is seedier (but certainly perfectly safe, especially in the day) it's a really spectacular view of Las Vegas.

Welcome to flyertalk Susie, you're going to have a fun time in Vegas. Many things to see and do. Hotels are cheaper on Sunday through Thursday nights though during a convention week it will get expensive. If rates are high for a particular week, check another week's rates. As grizzly stated, MGM is a nice hotel especially for folks who do not go very often. Restaurants at the MGM are awesome. MGM is towards the south end of Las Vegas Blvd. A little further north is Monte Carlo, also a recommended hotel (IMO) and within walking distance to Bellagio, etc. Check out the O show at Bellagio.

Lastly, all the major airlines fly to Vegas from Orlando. Non-stop flights are on Song, America West and Southwest, however, generally only one non-stop flight a day.
One more tidbit, sign up for a Players Card where ever you feel like playing, you just never know where you can get some comps
