AT the time I was a Mexican National with a Resident Alien Card. My step dad put up a fight. I said to let them take the money because I was going to owe them money at the end of the year anyway. The casino said it was SOP when a progressive pays out whether at carribean or a machine.

But they do not do it at the tables.

Later, Bellagio gave me a letter stating that I had lost more than I won through out the year, which I used when I filed my return to negate the winnings.

PS

The IRS handed me when they took the chips a WG2 showing the total winnings and how much they withheld at the table.

It really sucks that in the US they take a tax on lottery winnings. Since it is already a way for the government to raise revenue to come back and take their cut for taxes seems unfair. In other countries (Mexico, Spain) the lottery winnings are tax free.
