One point I have not seen discussed since the monorail was activated is its value to people staying at hotels on the west side of the strip. I recall taking the free trip some time ago Bally's to the MGM Grand. We were staying at Caesars and it was a relatively long walk to get to the station. We pretty much had to navigate our way through all the twists and turns and crowds of Bally's.
I don't mean to minimize its value, as traffic on the Strip has become a true nightmare. And for anyone staying on the east side of the Strip, it is truly a great way to get around. But it is not a trivial walk from hotels on the west side to any of the monorail stations.

Getting from the hotels on the West side of the strip to the Monorail stations on the East side is non-trivial. Both the MGM and Bally's/ParisLV stations are buried far beyond the casinos and signage is pretty abysmal (as opposed to the MBay-Luxor-Excalibur tram which is very convenient to the front of the buildings). And the Monorail doesn't even go to the Venetian. It's great for people staying on the East side but IMHO, don't bother using the Monorail if you're staying on the West side (TI, Mirage, Bellagio, Caesars, NY-NY, Excalibur-Luxor-MBay). Plus the cost is also non-trivial ($3/pp?? A cab for two between the MGM and the Bally's would be less expensive).
People staying on the West side have the option of using Frank Sinatra Dr which parallels the Strip just behind the casinos on the West side thus avoiding the Strip traffic.
Why they didn't build the Monorail above the Strip median where the stations can be shared by (and integrated into) casinos on both sides of the Strip is beyond me.
