3hrs in LAS
Hi, gang!
I have a 3 hr, 9 min. lay over in Vegas. I'll probably want to get back to the airport an hour before my flight to San Jose departs, but I was just curious what's super close to the airport in the way of maybe blackjack or cheap lunch? How's the cab fare? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Ahhh... 3 hours in Vegas, what to do...
Assuming your flights come in on time, and have no luggage (or checked it through), I would suggest the following:
1 - Decide if you want to leave the airport, you can stay inside security, there are low paying slot/video poker machines there, but no table games. There are plenty of places to eat/drink too. Actually, Vegas isn't that bad of an airport to hang around.
2 - If you do decide to leave, pay attention to the security lines to get back through. Sometimes they are 10 minutes, sometimes an hour! Sunday will be the worst day to try this.
3 - If you want to gamble, the quickest way depends on the lines for a cab. If there are no/short cab lines hop a cab to your favorite casino (MGM and Hard Rock should have the shortest transit times). If the cab lines are long, hop on one of the BellTrans limos (short busses) their first stop would be the MGM or sometimes the Tropicana. The cab should cost 10-12US, the shuttle $4.50. You will need to take a cab back to the airport either way.
The MGM casino is huge and there are other casinos you can walk to and enjoy, the Hard Rock is kind of off on its own. If you go to MGM, you can walk across the street to New York New York and ride the roller coaster. Great way to get your adrenaline running before your next flight!
Hope this helps spend your three hours!

MGM is closest. Taxis are $10 to get anywhere and they go up from there. If you're nuts you have time to get to the MGM, see the lions (if it's not Tuesday), play 20 minutes of Blackjack, and get back to the airport. At certain times security lines can be an hour or more.

Since you should give yourself 90 min to check-in, get wanded, get re-wanded etc, you actually got 99 min to play in fabulous wonderful LV. Traffic to the airport can back up at any time, and if a big Japanese etc tour group is in front of you, you need 120 min rather than 90 min. Obtain an airline club voucher or pay for a one day entry (typ $35-$50 and go to one with free booze) and hang out there and/or play the airport slots and watch the visitors winners come and go.

MGM is the closest Strip casino, but the Hard Rock is closest overall when you factor the time to step into the casino due to it's it's 'boutique' size.
