Not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that it is more advantageous for the "don't" player to lay odds after the point is established than it is for the "do" player to take odds?

Yes, the odds are in the don't pass players favor after any point is established, i.e., the seven is more likely to come than 4,5,6,8,9 or 10.

But the house edge (and the player's edge) on any odds bet in craps is zero.

(btw, do or don't, I always take/lay max odds because, probability-wise, it is one of the best bets in the casino)

I think it's always advantageous to take/lay free odds after the come out roll, since with a point established, the 2/3/11 can't hurt/help either player and you can assess the probability of the point or 7 being rolled. The Don't player has the advantage because a 7 has the greatest chance of being rolled (which is why laying odds requires a bet of 2 units to win 1 unit), except when you run into a hot table (like I did), where it seems every number is rolled except the 7, and a 7 or 11 are only rolled during the come-out.

There is no "assess the probability" -- probability is something you can't change. The probability of rolling any given number with a 'fair' pair of dice is the probability of rolling any given number. (though, of course, when on the 'don't side' a 4 or 10 is much nicer than a 6 or 8; but, you still are in the better position.... since as you mention, 7 is more likely to be rolled than ANY of the numbers)

What you are referring to is superstition (with regard to 'hot' versus 'cold'). This cannot be qualified in any way. If you are into that stuff, there is a great (by great, I mean funny and entertaining) book that examines craps strategies and feng shui. It looks at how to control the CHI at the dice table to your advantage.

Like I said, I love superstitions, and their history... but, you really can't figure out a strategy based on 'hot' and 'cold' tables. It's all just luck, and luck is always something that happened in the past.

edit to add :
I might have 'mis-read' your point with "assess the probability" --- by meaning some point numbers are better than others (with regard to rolling them in relation to the 7).
But, it's really splitting hairs... IMHO if you are "ON THE DON'T" just back up on everything; why hedge... you made it past the "come-out." The whole point is getting a 7-out and then maximizing your win $$$ when on the "Don't." --- I stopped playing "Don't Side" because it's just too tedious, and not placing odds on all the numbers would seem to make it even less lucrative (and even more tedious).

Yep. The dice have no memory (as opposed to cards, where there is memory as long as you're not playing those horrible autoshuffler things). The dice have no idea if the table is hot or cold.

That said, the reason I play pass is because it's more fun. Being with the crowd on a hot table is way more fun than the .05% advantage to the don't to me.

Yep! :D Craps is all about community! and, if you are lucky enough to run into a good roll; you can make a LOT more money pressing your numbers (and with come bets), than you are likely to ever make on the "Don't-Side."

That's exactly what I meant - the probability is fixed, but I'd rather lay more odds on a 4/10 at the choppy table than a 6/8 at a hot table where the point is being made frequently and 7-outs are rare.

I don't think there is a special strategy for a hot or cold table - but I think it would influence what side of the roll you would play. At the choppy table on night 1, the two of us who were playing the Don't side were doing very well, while at night 2, I stood there and slowly bled away my profits while everyone else cleaned up when number after number was rolled. As a Don't player, I think my strategy on night 2 was to walk away and find another table, not alter my playing method.

In my experience, "Don't Players" don't stick around too long. ;) I once had a "Don't Streak" of 8 shooters in a row, with significant (but not doubling) presses of my bets. That was many years ago, when I played the "Don't" at Argosy-Indiana; 10X odds.

I was on the virtuoso site and noticed they do not have the Wynn on their list of hotels with exclusive offers anymore. did they drop the wynn for 2011? I know it was there just a couple months ago. now under Vegas there is only the Aria...

Need to stay at Wynn Encore Jan. 20 - best option just to book online?

Am I a sucker for just paying the $400 for the tower suite or is their a better/cheaper way to get this room?

Thanks

I'm sure they'll comp the room if you gamble plenty at their tables.

Understand that the basic room at the Tower Suites is not a suite.

Stayed in a resort panoramic room on 57th floor over New Year. Renovated rooms really are very nice - similar to Encore. Was originally given a strip view room but swapped to a golf course view and had no night club noise.

Unlike last year, the fast track line in the Buffet for Tower Suite and invited guests was operating (others had the chance to buy a package which included a line pass). Regular line for buffet was well over 2 hours long at times (no idea why anyone would wait that long!).

that is correct - same size as a resort room, with a few extras. Not worth paying extra over a resort room imo.

Book through a Virtuoso agent -- typically Virtuoso rates are BAR (Best Available Rate ) less 10%.....

I was on the virtuoso website the last couple days ago and did a search for properties in vegas. only aria came up as a property in vegas. is wynn/encore still offering virtuoso deals?

Don't know about the Tower Suites, but definitely not on the Resort side at the Encore (unless they skipped turndown three times in a row for me).

I find it odd that a hotel with such a nice physical plant doesn't have the equivalent level of service in most instances. Not having turndown in such a nice setting just feels dissonant.
