I would imagine they would run good rates. I've never stayed here but I've been in this hotel and it's...alright. It's on the far end of the strip away from everything. True, it is just a quick cab ride away, but I've found it's best to walk everywhere on the strip--traffic can be murder. They do have a cool roller coaster, though, called "Speed." You should check that out. I think you'd be able to find comparable rates at some of the others that are a bit closer to the action such as Treasure Island, Flamingo Hilton, even the Excalibur.

Another possible advantage is the Sahara is it is a reasonable walk to the LV Convention Center. Good place to be if your attending a convention there.
I agreee that when the new monorail service opens, the Sarhara will probably grow in popularity, although the room prices may "grow" as well.

Avoid the Sahara buffet. I wouldn't let my dogs eat it.
The rooms are mediocre at best.
It's not the best area, though not as bad as the Strat. The closest casino (Circus Circus)is easily a 15 minute walk door to door.
The $1 BJ tables draw in hordes of players, so the casino is hoppin at night. Of course, the rules on their BJ games are quite poor.
Personally, I would never stay here. I would think you could get the Imperial Palace for about the same price. It's about the same as far as rooms/food, but it's in a more centralized location.
Are there other casinos you were considering besides Sahara?
Here is an interesting review :

Yes, it will begin at the MGM and when Phase 1 is finished, it will end at the Sahara.
I think the MGM-Ballys segment is currently closed, but due to reopen soon (definitely before Jan 04).
