question about visit 10/31-11/3
Does anyone know of any special promotions being run during this time period for hotels. The best rate for a suite at a hotel was the MGM Grand bungalow suites for $569 for the three nights.
Thank you for your help.

I've never seen any promotions for suites, other than the Venetian in which all the rooms are suites. But that sounds like a great deal at the MGM. Bungalow suites are simply large rooms with a sitting area.

If you don't have to stay directly on the strip, Travelaxe shows several less expensive suite alternatives for your dates:
Rio $482
Embassy Suites (Convention Center) $387
Alexis Park $236
If being on the stip is a must, you can get a room at Aladdin for those days for $436; and I've heard it's pretty easy to get a relatively inexpensive upgrade to one of their great suites.

Thank you to both of you. A suite is not necessary and we would preferrably want to be on the strip. Usually, there are sweet deals and comps but for some reason I suppose because of the November conventions I could not find any promotions.

Don't forget Priceline. If you bid for a 5*, you'll land the Venetian (its the only 5* on the strip). 4*'s include Mirage, MGM and Bally's.
Check Travelaxe, try bidding 50-75% of the best price. You should have a pretty good chance of saving a few $$$.

How are these bungalow kings? I've been offered one at $55/night (10/22&23) and didn't know if it's worth it. I've heard that the hotel is too huge (It's been 20 years since I've stayed there)and that these rooms are really nothing "special".

I think they are very nice minisuites, especially if you get a Strip view. The Spa Suites, one step up, have a huge Jacuzzi in an otherwise identical room.
MGM is the largest hotel in the world. If you are looking for an intimate experience it's not for you.

Some things to consider:
- Do you want to be able to walk to your business function and/or dinner?
- Is a 15-minute wait to get out of valet parking at the MGM going to be a problem?
- Do you want peace and quiet?

For me, Hampton would be a bit too vanilla for such a unique, flamboyant town as Las Vegas. If it were my trip, I would try for one of the more upper end all-suite hotels through Priceline. I also like the suites.
Using information from biddingfortravel.com, I would bid for the UNLV zone in the $40-50/night range for a 3 star hotel. With rare exceptions, the only places that come up in this zone at 3* are fairly upper end all suite places: Embassy Suites, Alexis Park and Crowne Plaza. Of these 3, Embassy Suites, ranked 11th among all LV hotels in the Best of Las Vegas Guide, is the most likely to come up. I might also add the Convention Center zone at 3* up to $50 to try to get Marriott Suites (although this could result in getting the LV Hilton, the only other hotel that tends to come up in this zone).
According to Travelaxe, there are no major conventions in town during your dates, so availability should be relatively high unless Halloween draws a big crowd to LV. I'd be pretty surprised if Priceline didn't have a good deal.
As a cancelable backup, I might use the sporty Las Vegas Club, seeing that Travelaxe shows them at just $37/night. For another $10 they will upgrade to the new tower - surprisingly nice, very clean rooms with more than adequate amenities. Good deal + some local flavor.

I appreciate your effort to help, but I really don't see how your advice is anything more than a "gamble" (OK,I know this is the town to take a risk)). I use Priceline quite often and know risks involved and doubt that I will get any better than the MGM at $55. Your statement," (ES)is the most likely to come up puzzles me. There are 2 ES's in Vegas . One is sold out the other has limited rooms left. BFT hasn't shown a successful bid at an ES for quite some time. The fear of getting the Hilton is enough to scare me from this idea. The Travelaxe site may not show a major convention, but there are many hotels sold out for those dates.
Your idea about the Las Vegas Club is interesting, but why would I want a "clean"room with 200 less square feet for a $8 savings? Again thanks for your help, but ,unless I thought I could get a top property for a great rate,PL probably doesn't fit for this trip.

Take a look at my website (hint:it is the same as my nickname with a .com behind it) for the LA Times Vegas hotel specials. Currently there are not many new specials, probably due to the November conventions as you mentioned previously, but there are some good deals to be had.
Don't forget to have a great time during your stay!

Regarding the MGM, I thought that was going to set you back $569. If you can get the same deal as Jabez did (different dates) that's great.
As to ES not coming up on Priceline recently, that may well be because the vast majority bid for the strip. A $50 Priceline bid, or 1/3 of the going rate for ES, would not be inconsistent with the values I have seen for Priceline.
With the great free breakfasts at ES and their manager's happy hour free drinks, the regular $99($79) ES rate might even be competitive with Hampton's, particularly given the quality level difference.
But of course it's your trip and I hope you have a great time there.
Viva Las Vegas!

Not trying to carry this too far,but the ES site shows one ES and $149/night and the other sold out. It has been sold out since I first checked it out 10 days ago (I generally check HH properties first). A $99 ES might have tempted me.That said, I was looking for a comparison of a $55 MGM "mini-suite" and the Hampton. Actually, the HGVC is my favorite property there, but it's overpriced at this time. Using priceline to get a specific property is most often bad advice. This is especially true if it's implied that the ES would be the one (there hasn't been a reported ES priceline stay in some 8 months!)Besides, the MGM is a 4 star. I don't see any 4 star priceline sucessful bids under $60 and that's for a standard room.
IMHO, priceline in a city like Vegas is better used for the 5 star type properties. There are so many deals on the others that you could often find a 4 star at "priceline prices".I thank you for your attempt to help, but unless you find me that $99 ES room, I'll stay clear of your priceline advice.
By the way, don't count on your source for conentions to be an absolute. They generally only go by conventions through the local CVB. There are a number of large events (one with 15,000 attendees) at different hotels. There are at least 13 3+star hotels (including the CP you mentioned as a priceline possibilty)that are sold out besides the ES.
Off2vegas,you have a very helpful site.
