This Weekend ??

For the past several months (longer actually), rates at LAS hotels have been pretty cheap on weekends (the econonmy, I know ). Quite awhile ago I made plans for a quick M/R to LAS for this weekend -- got a good rate at Westin etc. Checking today, I see most hotels are sold out, or offering very hight rates for 11/13-16. Whats going on in town ? or is this the turnaround Vegas has been waiting for ?

I've been watching hotel prices slowly inch up over the last 6-8 months. I am eager to see what happens in the next couple of months with the new hotels opening (plenty of new rooms with the City Center starting to open). USA Today reports they expect travel to Vegas to be on the increase but I doubt it will cover all the new rooms. So I'd hope this would keep the price pressure down or at least constant.

There are a couple of small-to-mid conventions (total 42,000 attendees) that start up in the first part of the next week - sometimes attendees come early to have some unencumbered leisure time before the formal meetings start. The prizefight mentioned above (many people come even though they do not have tickets to the fight venue itself), and people booking last-minute weekends before the Thanksgiving season starts might further explain the increaed bookings.

The first round of the Great Gift Wrap-up is at the Harrahs properties that weekend too.
