Transit time

As previously posted we are considering booking a flight from LHR - AKL.

We would arrive on KE908 at 16:00 (local time) and leave on KE129 at 17:10.

Would that give us time for a shower / something to eat?

Would it be worth booking a lounge for that short time?

Are the gates for those flights normally close together? & how far is it from getting off the airplane to the shower area?

Would we need to pre-book showers (in HKG we had to)

Is transit easy at this airport? (It appears to have very good reviews)

Sorry for all the questions - i just like to know exactly what i have to do and where i have to go in advance.

ICN is a big airport. You have enough time to transfer to your next flight. Unless you can shower and eat at the same time, I think it's up to you to decide when you get to ICN.

Pretty good at multi-tasking but dont think i could manage to do both at the same time!!!!

Thanks for your answer so quickly - appreciated. I'll take a wait and see approach to it - the shower is more important than the food (the children may see it differently!!).

ICN isn't as big as some and you shouldn't have to worry about a terminal change, but you still have to clear security and boarding for the connecting flight will probably commence a half hour before the departure time. Plus kids usually don't speed things up any!

Rampo - thanks for the pdf that very useful.

How long does it normally take to clear security at the airport when transiting?

Once off the plane it usually doesn't take me more than 10 minutes to get to and clear the transit security station, but I really move it so that I can get ahead of "the pack" and be one of the first at security. My flight from the US tends to have quite a few passengers who are connecting to other international flights so if I dawdle a minute or two I'm looking at a much longer wait. It helps that there seem to be no passengers from other arriving flights at that particular time (about 4:30pm Seoul time).

We have about 45 mins transfer time at ICN. Arriving from JFK and then catching a flight to DPS. Korean said "yes, that is minimum time and we ticket that route." Yet, that does seem awfully close. The JFK flt arrives ICN in the late afternoon.

Can/should I assume we will be Ok with this? I guess we grab our carry ons and run to the next gate? Has anyone had such a quick transfer? Hopefully there are others on our flt with the same connection and/or someone from Korean who can hustle us through immigration. Thanks.

Korean Air does seem to like those tight transfer times. I regularly only have a 50-55 minute layover before my BKK flight and usually arrive at the departure gate about 5-10 minutes before boarding. Don't expect anyone to meet you. You should be OK but, as I said before, no time for dawdling. FYI, you don't have to pass through immigration, just a transit security check.
