visa for Korea?

I was wondering if tourists need a visa to enter South Korea? I've heard mixed reports on this topic but no definite answer. I am a Canadian citizen. Thanks for your help!

What about vietnamese passport holder? I hope to get out and overnight in seoul during my 16 hour transit. Assuming I will have a onwarding ticket to US, with a valid US visa, will I be able to get out visa free?

According to Timatic (the source used by the airlines), it looks ok as long as your ICN-USA flight is direct (i.e. not connecting in NRT etc.), but please confirm yourself!

Korea (Rep.) (KR)

Visa Exemptions:

- Holders of a visa issued by Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand or USA to nationals of any country except for Cuba, Iran, Macedonia (FYROM), Sudan and Syria, only if:
-holding confirmed onward tickets on flights departing within 30 days; when
-arriving from a third country, departing on a direct flight to the country that issued the visa (e.g. DEL-ICN-YVR); or
-arriving on a direct flight from the country that issued the visa, departing to a third country (e.g. YVR-ICN-DEL).

uh oh, then I might get a Japan visa. My planned itinerary is like HAN-HKG-ICN/GMP-HND-JFK-AUA.

Thanks for the info!
