i actually transit at ICN often. Usually arriving between 5 and 7 am. The secure transfer in the satellite terminal is never open so I often have to go to the Main terminal even when transferring MH to CX. My question was, does anyone know when the secure transfer opens in the satellite terminal? I know it isn't 24 hour like the Main.

My guess (and it's only a guess) is around 7am as that's when a lot of the non-24hr services begin. It could be airline-dependent as well (not sure if they'd be negotiating this service with the airport), not sure.

I'm looking at arriving on AC from YVR which I believe would be at the satellite terminal. We then would have a 1hr 45m layover before getting on Korean Air.
Will AC be able to check my bags right through on Korean ( not star alliance but interlude partner).... Will that be enough time. We are arriving early evening? (Going SGN) same thing coming back - were on Korean then onto AC? Thanks.

Will you have a single ticket/PNR?

Have you checked MCT at ICN for your itinerary?

BTW, I assume you mean interline and not interlude partner.

Yes, my plan is to have a single ticket. I need to call AC yet or go to a travel agent....my fault for not asking that first question correctly as that was kind of my question before I call AC. Can they do that if they give them the flights and seating codes I want. I just wasn't sure if my bags can be checked all the way through with Korean Air by AC. I usually always fly full codeshare partners but not this one?

Not sure what your second question is asking - Have I checked MCT at ICN for my itinerary? I'm just probably not experienced in all the lingo!

Correct, interline. .... same kind of thing I guess now that I say it!

MCT = minimum connecting time

ICN = Incheon (Seoul international) airport

Transfer from AA to KE en route to HKT

I'll be making a international transfer from AA to KE with about 4 hours(a little less) to make the transfer. I'll have checked baggage and it's my understanding that I would need to clear customs with my baggage and check back in with KE. Does anyone know if that would be the process?

If your ticket is on one reservation, they can usually send your bags to your final destination. Just be sure to show them your itinerary and tell them your final destination. If you have two completely separate tickets, yes, you will have to clear customs, gather your bags and go back upstairs to check in for your next flight.

Coming to ICN via Vietjet from HaNoi at 8 am
Departing via Peach Air at 10:20 am.

Both flights booked on separate tickets.I don't have a check in luggage. Will I need to go through immigration just to get boarding passes ? Will 2hr 20 mins be enough to go through immigration+checkin+security+immigration ?

Peach does not have transit counters. Yes, you will have to go through immigration and check in at the Peach counter.

To be honest, it should be enough. Around 8, that's when most of the SE Asia flights are landing, so you can be out in 10 minutes or you can wait 30. It just depends on how many immigration counters are open. If you find yourself waiting too long, grab an employee. Show them your Peach itinerary and they'll most likely let you rush the immigration line.

Same thing after you check in. If there are lines for security to go back airside, you can use the crew/diplomat line at your boarding time. Show the staffer your boarding pass and he'll direct you to that line (with no wait) around five minutes before the scheduled time on your boarding pass.

Thanks a lot. I did need a bit of reassurance on this one. Now lets just hope the Vietjet flight runs on time.

One more question. Is the Peach air terminal from the terminal at which Vietjet arrives ?

Peach and Vietjet will both arrive and depart from the satellite terminal. That doesn't help anything for your transit though, since you have to go landside to check in with Peach. That means you have to go all the way to the main terminal to exit immigration. When you come out of immigration into the airport, you need to go upstairs to the Departures Level and find the Peach check in counters. Then you clear security for your Peach flight and take the train back to the Satellite terminal.

The most important thing is to move quickly. I'd book a seat at the front of the VietJet plane. When you get off the plane, hustle. Walk fast. That means walk down escalators, if you see the shuttle train is there, try and run to catch it. Don't stop for the bathroom until you're at baggage claim. If you get to the immigration desks and the line is long, don't hesitate to move down to a different set of counters. Often, if everyone ends up at the same one, that line will be GIANT, but no one is at the other counters just a few feet down the way.

*Also, the one time I flew VietJet from HAN, it was delayed an hour and a half. The crew was late...for a scheduled 1:40 AM departure.*

While these two airlines are cheap separately, it might be muuuuuuuuuch safer to book a flight on a full service airline with a proper connection. If anything does go wrong, then you will have to pay for your new Peach flight out of pocket, which will probably be very expensive the day of.

Then there were several "transfer desks" throughout Incheon - I went to the specified one for China Southern to get my boarding pass. That was it. I only had a 3 hour layover so didn't do a free hotel or tour.

The only hitch I ran into was that once you take the train to the satellite terminal you cannot go back to the main terminal! That was quite strange, and I was quite disappointed since I headed directly to the satellite terminal and missed out on the opportunity to check out the many restaurants and shops at the main terminal. Makes me wonder what happens to people who accidentally go to the satellite terminal but who have flights leaving from the main terminal?
Did you have to touch your checked baggage throughout the process? Would a 90 min transit time too risky?

Thanks

You do not have to touch your bags presuming you had them checked to your final destination. 90 minutes is ample time.

If you're flying Korean Air or Asiana and connecting to a different flight on that airline, they will often have someone waiting outside the airplane with your name on paper to escort you to your next flight if you are running late.
