New Tableware
From Tradingmarkets.com
"KLM wants to distinguish itself and meet the needs of customers, regardless of the current economic circumstances. "KLM will keep investing in its customers and wants to emphasize this by collaborating with Marcel Wanders, a top-class designer with international prestige," explains Bart Vos, Executive Vice President of KLM Inflight Services. "His progressive designs tie in perfectly with the inspirational journey (AAARGH! There they go again!) we promise our passengers.
In addition to tableware, Marcel Wanders also designed cutlery, glasses, table linen and serving trays. "Designing the tableware and cutlery for KLM is a dream come true, something I've cherished for the past 20 years," says Marcel Wanders. "My designs are refreshing and a joy to use. They reflect the rich past of KLM and give a new, surprising vision for the future."
Marcel Wanders completed his studies with distinction at the Arnhem Academy of Arts in 1988. In 1996, he designed the 'Knotted Chair', which earned him international acclaim. Marcel Wanders' studio designs products and interiors for leading brands worldwide."
Given that the current WBC tableware looks like it has been filched from the canteen in a maximum security penitentiary, the new tableware can only be an improvement.
"Images are available from February 2009" I await their publication with bated breath.
While KLM is at it, perhaps they could replace their WBC seats with Mr Wander's Knotted Chair. Not only will it earn KL international acclaim, but also improve seat comfort by a considerable margin.

While I don't mind their dishware, their glassware definitely needs some updating. There is something very unappealing about the wineglasses they use now, also, wouldn't that be nice to introduce a separate champagne flute, like some other airlines do? My last flight on SU (yes, Aeroflot!) proved to have separate wine glasses, separate champagne flutes, regular high ball glasses and shot glasses (for vodka, of course!), that was quite nice and classy! Not to mention they served a hot towel on a separate porcelain rectangular dish.
