Vanishing website

What is it with the KLM website?

Every time I try to book a flight, the screen vanishes for minutes at a time during the transaction. Scroll down to see a flight... vanishes. Try to book a segment... vanishes. Enter credit card details... vanishes. Each time takes ages to re-appear. This has happened for months now and is driving me mad.

Don't come all 'it's a Mac thing' with me - although I am using a mac to (try to) do the booking, both with Safari and Firefox.

Help please (and no suggestions about changing computer please!)

Maybe it is a subtle hint from KLM that they don't appreciate your business

Keep the Mac & dump the website

If only airlines were as reliable as a Mac. At least something can be trusted to work properly and intuitively when you need it.

I am working with the hypothesis that it is some update that has not yet been properly checked out on Safari/Firefox and will eventually come right. I never expected much from a company that has a downloadable timetable for only Windows and hand-held machines.

I don't suppose they'll adapt it for the i-phone either

I actually use Minefield on the Mac which is a pre-release of what will become Firefox 3 (back when I used to have more free time I used to help test Mozilla and then Firefox releases so I've got in a habit of using bleeding edge). As I never heard anyone else report this problem until now I thought it must have just been because I was using pre-release code and the bug was in the browser.

I've had no problem displaying the site in Camino which is another Mac browser that's based on Mozilla. If you've not tried Camino it's worth giving it a try.

Also as people have discovered this bug in shipping versions of the browser and on Safari, it's probably a good idea to let KLM know about it.

Can someone on Windows download Safari and see if it also affects the Windows version which was recently released (beta).

It's worth remembering that Firefox uses the same rendering engine on all the supported platforms, so if this site acts odd on a Mac but not on a Windows PC then it's probably the server sending different content to Mac users for some reason.

It's also worth mentioning that any problems with Macs will also make it difficult to book KLM flights from Air France lounges as they're usually stocked with iMacs.

KLM actually blocks access to the Windows version of Safari listing it as not supported. You get taken to the following place where you can see the KLM swan: http://www.klm.com/travel/klm_splash...ersupport.html

The fact that page lists Safari (Mac only) and Firefox as supported browsers on MacOS X would imply that they actually test under it - if that's the case then they need better testers.

I actually agree with the comment with Camino, I've never experienced any errors with Camino which is odd really as it should display pages the same as Firefox, but even on Mac Firefox I've only experienced the vanishing pages bug on a very occaisional basis.
