What were these bigger seats used for? Where abouts in the plane were they?
Does KLM still any Airplanes with these seats. So basically were they WBC seats without the service? Or were they WBC seats with service when they had paying customers and without the service for the Elites?
Must have been fun being a Elite a few years back then?</font>

It was common to bump up elite members to those seats, you basically got a WBC product without the C class food !!

Previously, I remember a number of times when all paying WBC pax would be moved upstairs, and elites moved to the main deck biz seats, with Y service. This mostly on 744 service from the Far East, on routes with more tour groups than premium traffic (ICN, KIX, NGO, among others). This practice seems to have disappeared with the shrunken WBC cabins

My op-upgrade score is 2 in the last year. One SFO-AMS on KL and one AMS-KUL on MH, both being GE.

When this subject has been discussed before it has been suggested that those departing ex UK airports handled by Servisair (ie all except LHR) are at a disadvantage with op-ups ex AMS. Servisair staff are not authorised to op up pax and by the time you arrive in AMS on your feeder flight, Schiphol check-in have selected some PEs ahead of you. Unsure if this is remotely true but certainly might explain the high numbers of UK FD members who have been passed over for the elusive KLM operational upgrade.

Wife and I travelling together have had one from AMS to IAH and one AMS - LAX in 4 years. At the time we were both GE flying out of MME and on each occasion we were upgraded at the gate at Schipol. Both trips were in summer peak periods (July).

Was Royal Wing in 1995/1996/1997 and had lots of upgrades. I remember AMS - CPT, CPT - AMS, AMS - SFO, AMS - BKK and SIN - AMS, but there were more.
Was downgraded to Silver Wing and later Gold Elite and only had one upgrade SIN - AMS last year. Now I am a Platinum Elite again and looking forward to more upgrades.

As a RW, I scored over 90% (yes, really) on the AMS-JNB route over a period of several years. On top of that, I was once allocated a seat in the nose cone cabin, with Y class service.
I can't say if the chances of an upgrade have declined, as all of my JNB flights the last couple of years have been in C. I did however receive two upgrades to the wonderful Europe Select class from AMS to CPH and CPH to AMS last year. In both cases Y was overbooked.
