does klm allow standby?
Hi all, flying lhr-ams-cdg in march. Have a 1300 flight out and would love to leave earlier. Does KL allow you to standby for an earlier? Is there a fee to do so? thanks

Whether you are entitled to standby depends on the type of ticket you have.
On a non-flexible ticket, you have no entitlement to travel on standby but you may be allowed to, at the discretion of the local agent.
In my experience, getting KL at AMS to let you travel standby on a non-flexible ticket is tantamount to extracting a favour out of the lounge dragons. Departing from the UK, however, you are more likely to encounter a flexible attitude.

The only way to get anything in AMS is to speak Dutch with a cute foreign accent...

Was able to get on an earlier flight to DUS once on a cheap "V class" ticket being a RW, had to change flights in the US and V class was not available on the 9.30 flight to DUS, decided to give a it a try and sprinted to B1 or B2, where the gate agent ( employed by some kind of sub operator for Schiphol, I believe ) put me on the earlier flight, but told me that my luggage will likely not make it, but that was only a minor concern, at that time I was batting around .300 for luggage arriving in DUS with me on the same flight...
So definitely give it a try !!

Not only your ticket but also your status might be helpful. Being PE I haver never been refused for standby, even flying with the cheapest tickets.</font>

It's certainly not for lack of trying, but I never managed to persuade the correct but charmless staff at LHR to put me on an earlier flight. Do I take it you're all carrying FD cards made of precious metal? I've been travelling as OnePass Gold, which has never cut any ice with them (doesn't even appear on my boarding pass).

Haven't hard a problem when tried it once in MAN. I showed up 40 mins before the flight I wanted to standby for (my original flight was 5 hours later) and got a BP with no problems.
Had 0 luck from AMS however.

Why are you flying to AMS to then fly to CDG ?? There is a train that runs directly from London to the heart of Paris. Time form leaving the hotel to arriving in Paris is a bout half that of flying this route. The cost in first class is also a darn site cheaper and more comfortable.
