Which classes restrict the miles earned

Please can anyone tell me the following

Which fare classes do not give FD miles etc and how can I find out what fare class I have booked on the KLM web site (or on an alternative site) before I hand over any payment?

Do upgrades come out of D class (so if this reads D0, are there no upgrades available)?

Sorry if this has been posted a number of times but all the information I can find seems confusing/conflicting.

Thanks for your help

Until the introduction of the Flying Blue program, E and N fare classes do not earn miles on KLM. I'm not sure whether the KLM website shows fare classes as I never book flights.

Award upgrades come out of D class. D0 means no award upgrades or Biz award tix.

From KLM web site:

You cannot earn Miles on the following types of fare:
Award travel tickets (class W/D)
Competitively priced low-cost promotional fares (class N/E)
Tickets partially or fully paid for using Air Miles (class G)
Travel industry reduced rates
Free or non-revenue tickets
Military or government tickets
Other fares that are from time to time declared by KLM to be ineligible for mileage accumulation. You will be notified of these fares when they become applicable
.

To find out the fare class you booked, call the FD helpdesk or KLM reservation. Have your booking reference (PNR) at hand.

"To find out the fare class you booked, call the FD helpdesk or KLM reservation. Have your booking reference (PNR) at hand."

Does that mean one buys the ticket and then finds out via a call what the booking class is? Does KL have a 24 hour refund policy ala NW?

I'm looking to book DXB next week on an action fare, however there seems to be no fare reference anywhere in the booking process. What a pain in the butt

Have you tried clicking on the "terms and conditions" link? That's where I found the information last time.

As for KLM's helpful advice quoted in the previous post

"To find out the fare class you booked, call the FD helpdesk or KLM reservation. Have your booking reference (PNR) at hand."

- looks like they still don't understand that we need the information BEFORE we book and not after!
