A shrinking world

I have always got 6038 miles AMS to CPT and return so was surprised when on my last trip out I got 6038 return 6020. OK so its 18 miles but I was fascinated by the change. Wrote to FD and got a reply:

Please be informed that mileage can slightly change. From January 2005 on you can now earn 6020 miles for the stretch Amsterdam- Capetown.

Sincerely,

Flying Dutchman helpdesk

Is this happening on other routes? After all 18 x many thousands pf FD journeys is quite alot. Or is the world indeed shrinking!

They only count the distance traveled in the air. Did you land on the Polderbaan?

According to the Great Circle Mapper, the distance is 5997 miles. You should be thankful for the extra 23 miles they still give.

Well according to some people here, FD read this forum

If that really is the case then don't expect the extra 23 miles to last long.

And according to http://www.webflyer.com/travel/milemarker it's 6020 as FD uses for its calculation!
