How do the discount web awards work?

Can one avail of the web award discounts for a non point-to-point flight? For example, the economy FD "fare" from Ams to JFK has been cut from 25,000 miles to 18,750 miles. If I'm flying from New Delhi to JFK, the normal o/w fare is 50,000 miles and r/t is 100,000 miles. Does that mean the r/t will now cost 100,000 minus 12,500 (i.e. a saving of 6,250 each way) to become 87,500?

If you routed via the web@ward destination then the system would normally apply the discount.

In other words do for example a Delhi - New York (KL643) via AMS and the system will give a 25% discount so it would be 37,500 miles each way instead of 50,000.

Note that there are 2 kinds of WebAwards discounts - % and miles. On % discount - this will apply to the whole itinerary (but only the whole init is on KL metal). On DEL - JFK you will get a 25% discount on the whole itin - 37.5K instead of 50K. On BOM - JFK you will not get it as BOM - AMS is on NW metal.
Miles discounts are fixed and will not apply a larger discount when connecting.

No. I have used the % discount to book flights that provided connecting segments on NW, KQ, AF and even AZ metal. Always had the discounts applied.

The question is - were you able to do this online?

At some time, it was possible to get the WebAwards discounts when reserving with a phone agent. Nowadays, it is only possible to get these awards online.

Sorry, The online booking system applied web award discounts to KL flights only. I did call the helpdesk to get a KQ flight back home to England and the helpful agent did apply the discount to those flights.
