Extra charges?

This is the first time I'm flying with KLM and i've just checked in online and printed my boarding pass and it says at the bottom under the heading 'Receipt':

payment for: 1 passenger
fare amount: GBPIT
tax/fee/surcharge: x amount

What on earth is this?

I booked through Expedia and it said that the booking included all flights, taxes and fees?

In the context of air fares "IT" stands for "Inclusive Tour" and means that you paid an unpublished fare, either as part of a tour package or because of a special deal negotiated by your agent.

You don't say on what Expedia site you booked your ticket (.com, .co.uk, .something-else). For travel booking sites in the EU the rule is that the headline fare (i.e., the fare that appears in your initial fare quote) must include all taxes and charges but that your receipt must show a breakdown.

So - as long as what you paid corresponds to the quote you were given Expedia has done things right.

I am surprised Expedia would actually sell these kind of 'custom' fare - Usually they sell exactly the same at exactly the same price as the other cheaptickets.nl/tix.nl/vliegtickets.nl and so on.

The bad point about these things is that the fare class might be one that does not earn miles - be aware while booking!

I didn't think there were any fare classes on KLM that didn't earn miles (on Flying Blue).

Maybe group packages or negotiated deals or something like that. But all paid fares booked through KLM.com (or other websites) earn miles.

Exactly, and the fare that the OP got through Expedia seems to be one of these 'negotiated deals'

Which routing did you buy this for? LHR-AMS?
