Isn't there a rule against posting lewd images on FT?

Next, they will be handing out three M&Ms instead of that Prince thing.

Nothing lewd to see here. And no false envy for the larger TUC pack. After all, it's not the size that matters, it's the technique. (Or so they tell me...)

on KLM 1046 you are usaully served sandwiches i think 1 cheese &1 meat plus coffee
they still ask you if you want cream ? then offer the powdered creamer that they have been serving since 1993 !
i get nostaligic about the old Sabbs , 90 minutes BRS - AMS with filled rolls &apple pie & coffee !!!

You should have tried AMS-MMX in the 80s and 90s:

A single FA provided up to 29 pax with a

  • full bar service
  • meal (full tray) + drinks service
  • dessert + coffee/tea/bar service
  • final bar service

The amazing thing is that nobody was amazed, it was simply in line with expectations.

Having switched to BA for a lot of intercontinental trips - the good thing of LTPE is that you do not need to fly KL anymore - I have been doing AMS-LHR/LCY vv a lot this year. On those flights - 40 mins effective air time - they do an amazing job compared to ES or Economy AMs-GVA (1.15 air time) or similar - flights that used to offer hot pasta meals in Y....
If you look at the BA board you will see similar rants, but still - KL is definitely not keeping pace here.
Sign of the times, I fear

KL 1046 is an early morning flight, so KLM still attempts to serve breakfast. I actually like the Dutch trattoria sandwiches, so would not mind getting them on all short-haul flights :-)

I'm in exactly the same position, and could not agree more.

My mother was stewardess (not a flight attendant) back in the 1970s and 1980s when studying and fresh from school... She tells stories of carver trays in Royal Class, cooking fresh scrambled or fried eggs with real bacon, desert carts that would make an Austrian proud, Beluga caviar, occasionally first growth wines, learning how to serve it all properly, and language requirements back then of three of four languages...

Even most first classes these days rarely come even close, in terms of food. Seems as the hard product had advanced the soft product has made a steady retreat. On all airlines.

It's the difference between KLM and KLM Cityhopper

This would kind of make sense, but so far I have not discovered the pattern when they give sandwiches and when the LU stuff. It does not seem to depend on the daily time. If I recall correctly, I had sandwiches by now at almost any daily hour, but not always when I expected it like around lunch or dinner time. I wish it was as stable as the offering in the crown lounges!

I think it's the difference between being on a flight operated by KLM (getting the sandwiches all the time) and KLM Cityhopper (snacks).
Basic difference being on a F70/100 or Embraer 190 operated by KLM Cityhopper or on a standard B737 with KLM itself.
At least this is what I figured out flying AMS-GOT weekly at different times...

BTW I did some flying in Sweden with SAS. After that even the snack is great

It might work on the GOT route but IME doesn't on LHR, GVA, HAM, etc. where a B737 is not a guarantee to avoid the dreaded TUC. It's the times not the equipment...

On a different note, we FTers must be the only ones with a dislike of TUC - on LHR-AMS last week the pack of GE and PE in the first 10 rows of Y almost all went for TUC AND Prince...

Agree with your SAS observation with regard to Y; in C or Y+ they beat European KLM Y or C, although I don't know whether their intra-Sweden is different.

In the past couple of days I had a handful of segments on Delta in Y and here is a picture of all the "snack" items offered. And honestly, TUCS and Prince taste like fine dining compared to Delta Pretzels, peanuts or Biscoff cookies!

o, tempora mutantur nos et mutamur in illis....

great read, all this reminiscing... wasn't even born in most of the old days :D

usually the trattoria sandwiches are pretty OK; TUCs are nostalgic :)
